Swimming Opens Spring with Cincinnati, Bellarmine

Musketeers travel across town to face the Bearcats on Friday, host the Knights on Saturday
CINCINNATI - Xavier men's and women's swimming will compete in a pair of meets this weekend, traveling across town to face the Cincinnati Bearcats at Keating Aquatic Center of Friday, January 21, with swimming events set to begin at 3:00 p.m. The Musketeers return to the pool the next day, hosting Bellarmine at the Heidt Family Champions Center. Women's events will begin at 11:00 a.m., while the met are set to compete at approximately 1:30 p.m.
Following the meet with Bellarmine, the Musketeers will next be in action on Sunday, January 30 at the Butler Invite at Fishers High School in Fishers, Ind.

 CINCINNATI |
- Cincinnati was last in action at Indiana, the last meet of the fall season. The men's team lost 163-122 and the women's team lost 163-121.
- Last season, Cincinnati's men finished second at the American Athletic Conference Championships, while the women finished third.
- Xavier last faced UC in January 2021, falling to the Bearcats on both the men's and women's side.

  BELLARMINE |
- Bellarmine opened the spring schedule with a meet at Evansville on January 15, with the women falling 142-118 and the men falling 156-106
- In 2020-21, the Knights' first season competing in NCAA DI, Bellarmine's men took third at the CCSA Championship in 2021, while the women finished eighth.
- Xavier last faced Bellarmine in January 2021, sweeping the Knights on both the men's and women's side with wins in 21 of 28 racing events.

- Xavier was last in action as a full team at the CSU Magnus Cup running from November 18-20, 2021.
- Ethan Saunders, Ethan Wing, Andrew Martin and Christian Thomas led the meet off for the Musketeer men with a second-place finish in the 200 free relay.
- Ethan Saunders was one of four Musketeers in the A-Final of the 50 breast, placing third with a time of 25.43. Saunders also led Xavier in the 50 free with a time of 21.15.
- Brett Wilson's time of 4:39.96 led Xavier in the 500 free.
- Michael Benington led three Musketeers in the A-Final of the 200 IM with a time of 1:51.76, placing fifth.
- Christian Thomas, Ethan Saunders, Caleb Petranchuk and Andrew Martin placed third in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:18.65 to close out the first day.
- The Musketeer men opened the second day with a second place finish in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:29.35 for Christian Thomas, Ethan Saunders, Joey Mullen and Andrew Martin.
- Nathan Wall's time of 3:57.63 led Xavier and placed third in the A-Final of the 400 IM.
- Christian Thomas placed third in the 100 fly with a time of 48.99.
- Andrew Martin set a new meet record and earned the top overall seed for the 200 free finals with a prelim time of 1:37.87. Martin followed that up with a win and a new meet record time in the finals, finishing in 1:36.78, just .10 seconds off his school record time.
- Ethan Saunders led Xavier in the 100 breast with a time of 55.02, placing third in the A-Final.
- Jon Bernard led the five Musketeers in the A-Final of the 100 back, finishing fourth with a time of 50.33.
- Jon Bernard, Ben Quon, Nathan Wall and Andrew Martin finished the 800 free relay in 6:45.20, placing third to close out the second day.
- To open the final day, Andrew Martin took the top spot in the mile with a time of 15:30.49. Martin also led Xavier in the 100 free with a time fo 44.87, placing third
- Nathan Wall led four Musketeers in the A-Final of the 100 IM with a time of 52.58, finishing fifth. Wall also led Xavier in the 200 breast with a time of 2:03.42, finishing fifth.
- Christian Thomas set a new school record in the 50 fly with a time of 21.73.
- Jon Bernard led four Musketeers in the A-final of the 200 back with a third place finish, with a time of 1:49.96.
- Christian Thomas, Ben Quon and Nick Mahoney went 1-2-3 in the 50 back, with Thomas setting a new meet record and placing first with a time of 22.88.
- Jack Parker's time of 1:53.61 led Xavier in the 200 fly, placing seventh.
- The Musketeer men closed out the meet with a second place finish for Andrew Martin, Ethan Saunders, Ethan Wing and Christian Thomas in the 400 free relay with a time of 2:58.66.
- Xavier finished in second place with 1,332.5 points.

- Tilly Baldwin's time of 5:03.47 in the 500 free was the top time by a Musketeer.
- Kali Fischer set a new school record time in the 200 IM, finishing in 2:02.26 to place fifth in the A Final. She bested her own school record of 2:02.84, set at last season's BIG EAST Championships.
- Alexis Worrall's time of 23.74 led Xavier in the 50 free.
- Xavier's women closed out the first day with a time of 3:49.12 in the 400 medley relay for Kali Fischer, Lydia Schaeffer, Hannah Pugh and Alexis Worrall.
- Xavier opened the second day of the meet with a fifth place finish in the 200 medley relay, with Reese Turner, Lydia Schaeffer, Kiara Anchrum and Kali Fischer finishing in 1:42.85.
- Kate Lair's time of 4:34.18 led the Musketeers in the 400 IM.
- Kiara Anchrum led Xavier in the 100 fly with a time of 55.37.
- Alexis Worrall earned the top seed in the 200 free with a time of 1:49.67 during the prelims. Worrall led Xavier in the finals with a time of 1:50.20, placing fourth.
- Lydia Schaeffer set a new school record of 1:04.20 in the prelims of the 100 breast, besting her own mark to earn a spot in the A-Final. Julianne Libler's time of 1:04.58 led Xavier in the finals, placing third in the B-Final.
- Hannah Pugh's time of 56.79 led Xavier in the 100 back.
- Xavier closed out the second day with a third place finish for Alexis Worrall, Clara Keiser, Clare Bosse and Kali Fischer in the 800 free relay, finishing in 7:30.59.
- The final day of Magnus opened with the 1650 free, with Tilly Baldwin finishing in 17:29.74 to lead Xavier.
- Kiara Anchrum placed fourth in the A-Final of the 50 fly with a time of 24.88, a school record in the event.
- Kali Fischer set a new school-record time in the 200 back with a time 2:00.64, besting the previous time of 2:00.88,
- Alexis Worrall placed fifth in the 100 free with a time of 51.28 to lead the Musketeers.
- Kelly Harris led Xavier with a time of 2:21.40 in the 200 breast.
- Kali Fischer's time of 26.24 led five Musketeers in the A-Final of the 50 back, placing fifth.
- Sophia Romero led Xavier in the 200 fly with a time of 2:06.00.
- Alexis Worrall, Clara Keiser, Clare Bosse and Kali Fischer closed out the meet with a fifth place finish in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:25.71.
- Xavier finished in fourth place with 754 points.

 XAVIER MEN |
- The Musketeer men are looking for a four-peat in the BIG EAST after winning their third-straight BIG EAST Swimming and Diving Championship in Spring 2021.
- Xavier collected 11 event championships and had all-conference finishes in 17 events, eventually winning by over 170 points over second-place Villanova. Xavier won 11 of 18 racing events, including four of five relays.
- Returners Andrew Martin and Christian Thomas each won three individual gold medals. Following the meet, Andrew Martin was named Most Outstanding swimmer on the men's side.
- All-BIG EAST honorees Jon Bernard, Andrew Devine, Davis Klein, Roark Lundal, Joey Mullen, Jack Parker, Ben Quon, Cameron Weese, Brett Wilson and Ethan Wing also return for the Musketeers.
- Xavier added a sophomore transfer from Michigan State in Michael Benington, as well as a freshman class of Gage Hannewyk, Adam Lamping, Caleb Petranchuk, Ethan Saunders and Nathan Wall.

- The Musketeer women return seven who earned All-Conference honors for last season's third-place finishing team at the BIG EAST meet.
- Â Among the returners are Brooke Atkins and Kali Fischer who were part of the BIG EAST Championship winning 200 medley relay.Â
- Lydia Schaeffer, Clara Keiser, Emma Swabb, Erin Merke and Julianne Libler also picked up all-conference honors.
- Xavier's women added a six-person freshman class in Maddie Agans, Kiara Anchrum, Molly Dynda, Mary Sweetman, Reese Turner, Amy Van Son and Alexis Worrall.
