Swimming Heads to Butler Invite on Sunday

Events set to start at noon at Fishers High School
CINCINNATI - Xavier men's and women's swimming return to action on Sunday, January 30, traveling to Fishers, Ind. to take part in the 13th Annual Butler Invitational. The Musketeers are one of nine schools that will be competing in the Invite, held at Fishers High School, with events set to kick off at noon.
Following the Butler Invite, the Musketeers will head to Miami on Saturday, February 5 in the final dual meet before the BIG EAST Championships get underway on February 23 in East Meadow, N.Y.

 BUTLER INVITE |
- This year's Butler Invitational features Saint Louis, Hillsdale, Ball State, Youngstown State, Illinois State, Indiana State and Bellarmine in addition to a women's squad from Butler and the Musketeers.
- The Musketeers took part in the Butler Invite in January 2021, where the men and women combined to win 18 events.
- Xavier's women took the top spot at the meet over Butler, and the men finished second, coming in behind Ball State.

- Following the Musketeers spring-opening weekend against Cincinnati and Bellarmine, junior Andrew Martin picked up BIG EAST Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week honors the league office announced on Tuesday.
- Kali Fischer was named a Notable Performer on the women's side by the BIG EAST.
- Martin picked up five event wins through two meets in the team's return to action for the spring semester. At Cincinnati, Martin picked up the only event win on the men's side, taking first in the 1000 free with a time of 9:28.03. Martin also led Xavier in the 100 free, placing second with a time of 46.21.
- Against Bellarmine, Martin picked up four move event wins, including a pair of individual events. He used a time of 1:42.97 in the 200 free to take first and also took first in the 500 free with a time of 4:41.32.
- Martin, who is originally from Middleton, Wis., was also a part of both winning relay squads against Bellarmine, swimming the freestyle leg of the 200 medley relay that finished in 1:33.57, and taking the third leg of the 400 free relay that finished in 3:09.33.
- This is Martin's second weekly award of the season, also picking up the honor the week of October 26.
- Kali Fischer, a sophomore from Eagan, Minn., was listed among the BIG EAST's notable performances after winning six events across two meets over the weekend for Xavier. The sophomore won the 200 back against UC with a time 2:03.29. She also took second and swam a personal best time of 24.10 in the 50 free in the meet against Cincinnati. Fischer helped the Musketeers win both the 200 medley relay and 200 free relay against the Bearcats.
- Against Bellarmine, Fischer took first in the 200 free with a time of 1:52.66, and helped Xavier to wins in the 200 medley relay and the 400 free relay.

- Ben Quon, Ethan Saunders, Christian Thomas and Andrew Martin set a time of 1:33.57 in the 200 medley relay to place first, leading three Xavier squads in the top three.
- Brett Wilson led Xavier in the 1000 free, placing second with a time of 10:06.84.
- Andrew Martin used a time of 1:42.97 in the 200 free to take first. He also took first in the 500 free with a time of 4:41.32.
- Ben Quon led three Musketeers in the top three of the 100 back, taking first with a time of 52.38. Davis Klein finished second and Nick Mahoney placed third.
- Jon Bernard took first in the 100 breast with a time of 57.58. Ethan Saunders placed second. Bernard also took first in the 200 breast with a time of 2:05.73 and the 200 IM with a time of 1:54.45.
- Jack Parker led Xavier in the 200 fly with a time of 1:56.97, finishing second.
- Christian Thomas set a time of 21.79 in the 50 free, taking first. Ethan Wing tied for second place. Thomas also led Xavier in the 100 fly, finishing second with a time of 51.91.
- Ethan Wing and Gage Hannewyk tied for first place in the 100 free with a time of 47.76. Ethan Saunders touched just behind them in 48.02 to place third.
- Davis Klein led the Musketeers in the 200 back, taking first with a time of 1:54.98. Michael Benington placed second and Brett Wilson finished third.
- Xavier closed out the meet by taking the top two spots in the 400 free relay, with Christian Thomas, Ethan Wing, Andrew Martin and Ethan Saunders leading the way with a time of 3:09.33.
- Xavier's men won by a final score of 179.5-61.5.

- Kali Fischer, Lydia Schaeffer, Hannah Pugh and Alexis Worrall led the meet off with a first place finish in the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:48.00. Xavier took the top three spots in the opening relay.
- Clara Keiser took first in the 1000 free with a time of 10:52.59.
- Kali Fischer's time of 1:52.66 in the 200 free was good for first place and led in four Musketeers in the top four. She was followed in by Amy Van Son, Erin Ritz and Emma Swabb.
- Brooke Atkins'Â time of 59.89 took first in the 100 back.
- Lydia Schaeffer led Xavier in the 100 breast, placing second with a time of 1:07.88.
- Sophia Romero won the 200 fly with a time of 2:10.19.
- Alexis Worrall placed first in the 50 free with a time of 24.72.
- Clare Bosse's time of 53.39 in the 100 free was good for first place, and Clara Keiser touched just behind her in second with a time of 53.54.
- Hannah Pugh's time of 2:06.99 placed first in the 200 back and led a trio of Musketeers in the top three. Amy Van Son finished second and Reese Turner finished third.
- Kate Lair's time of 2:25.79 was good for first place in the 200 breast. Lair also led the Musketeers in the 200 IM, taking first with a time of 2:10.73.
- Erin Ritz led three Musketeers in the top three of the 500 free, placing first with a time of 5:19.85. Tilly Baldwin finished second and Emma Swabb placed third.
- Anna Baker led Xavier int he 100 fly, finishing second with a time of 1:00.71.
- Xavier's women closed out the meet with a first place finish in the 400 free relay for Kali Fischer, Clare Bosse, Alexis Worrall and Clara Keiser, finishing in 3:31.16.
- Xavier won by a final score of 192-53.

- The Musketeer men are looking for a four-peat in the BIG EAST after winning their third-straight BIG EAST Swimming and Diving Championship in Spring 2021.
- Xavier collected 11 event championships and had all-conference finishes in 17 events, eventually winning by over 170 points over second-place Villanova. Xavier won 11 of 18 racing events, including four of five relays.
- Returners Andrew Martin and Christian Thomas each won three individual gold medals. Following the meet, Andrew Martin was named Most Outstanding swimmer on the men's side.
- All-BIG EAST honorees Jon Bernard, Andrew Devine, Davis Klein, Roark Lundal, Joey Mullen, Jack Parker, Ben Quon, Cameron Weese, Brett Wilson and Ethan Wing also return for the Musketeers.
- Xavier added a sophomore transfer from Michigan State in Michael Benington, as well as a freshman class of Gage Hannewyk, Adam Lamping, Caleb Petranchuk, Ethan Saunders and Nathan Wall.

- The Musketeer women return seven who earned All-Conference honors for last season's third-place finishing team at the BIG EAST meet.
- Â Among the returners are Brooke Atkins and Kali Fischer who were part of the BIG EAST Championship winning 200 medley relay.Â

- Xavier's women added a six-person freshman class in Maddie Agans, Kiara Anchrum, Molly Dynda, Mary Sweetman, Reese Turner, Amy Van Son and Alexis Worrall.
