Women's Tennis Announces Spring Schedule for 2022

Musketeers look to defend 2021 BIG EAST title and make return trip to NCAA Championships
CINCINNATI – Xavier women's tennis announced its spring dual slate for 2022 this week. The Musketeers will face 20 opponents to prepare for the 2022 BIG EAST Championship, being held April 21-24, 2022, looking to defend the 2021 BIG EAST title and make a third trip to the NCAA Championships, set to begin on May 6, 2022.

- The Musketeers picked up a 5-2 win over the Norse last spring, taking the doubles point with a sweep of all three courts, and picking up wins on courts No. 1-4.

- The Flyers went 5-14 last spring, with a 0-2 A10 record.
- Dayton fell, 4-0, to Duquesne in the first round of the Atlantic 10 Championship.
- The Musketeers took a 7-0 win over the Flyers in Dayton last spring.

- Purdue went 6-11 last fall, playing to 6-10 in an All-Big Ten regular season.
- The Boilermakers fell, 4-3, in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament.
- Xavier last faced Purdue in the spring opener in 2020, falling 6-1 in West Lafayette, Ind.

Memphis, Tenn.
- Memphis went 6-14 last season, with a 1-4 record in AAC play.
- The Tigers fell 4-1 in the first round of the AAC Championship to No. 46 Tulsa.
- Xavier fell 5-2 last season to the Tigers, with the Musketeers taking the doubles point and Ahmeir Kyle taking the win in the No. 1 spot over No. 72 Sophie Abrams.
vs. South Florida (at Memphis)
January 29
Memphis, Tenn.
- South Florida went 8-15 last season, with a 1-3 record in AAC matches.
- The Bulls beat UC in the first round of the AAC Tournament, 4-1, before falling to No. 8 ranked Central Florida, 4-1, in the quarterfinals.
- This is the first match-up between the two programs.
vs. Virginia Tech

- Virginia Tech went 7-17 overall last season, including a 7-4 record in non-conference play.
- The Hokies beat Clemson 4-2 in the first round of the ACC Championships before falling to Georgia Tech in the second round.
- Xavier fell 5-2 to the Hokies last spring, with singles wins for Ahmeir Kyle in the No. 1 spot and Kat Lyman in the No. 3 spot.
vs. Michigan State

- The Spartans went 7-12 overall and 6-11 in an all-Big Ten regular season
- MSU picked up a 4-1 over Wisconsin in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament before falling to No. 6 Ohio State, 4-0, in the second round.
- Xavier last faced MSU in 2020, a 4-1 win for the Spartans. Xavier picked up a point in doubles actions.
vs. Penn State

- The Nittany Lions went 10-8 overall and 10-7 in a Big Ten only regular season.
- After earning a first round bye, PSU fell to Minnesota in the second round of the Big Ten Tournament.
- This is the first match-up between the two schools.
vs. ETSU
February 25 - 6 PM
Cincinnati, Ohio (Eastern Hills Indoor)
- The Bucs went 13-10 last season, with a 7-2 record in Southern Conference action.
- ETSU picked up a 4-0 win over Wofford in the Semifinals of the SoCon Tournament before falling to No. 1 seeded Furman in the championship match.
- Xavier last faced ETSU in 2019, a 4-3 win for the Musketeers.
at Indiana

- The Hoosiers went 1-16 with a 1-15 record in an all-Big Ten regular season.
- IU fell 5-2 to Minnesota in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament.

- This is the first match-up between the two programs.

- The Buckeyes went 23-4 overall, playing to 15-1 in a Big Ten only regular season and earning a top-10 national ranking.
- Ohio State went on to beat Michigan State, Iowa and Michigan in the Big Ten Tournament to win the title and an automatic berth to the NCAA Championship.
- The Buckeyes took wins over UIC (4-0) in the first round, and Vanderbilt (4-3) in the second round before falling to Texas (4-1) in the Round of 16.
- The two programs last faced off in 2015-16, a 6-1 win for the Buckeyes in Columbus.
at Louisville

Louisville, Ky.
- Cardinals went 9-13 overall last year and 3-10 in ACC play.
- UofL topped Boston College 4-1 in the first round of the ACC Championships before falling 4-0 to Duke to end the season.
- Louisville took the meeting last season, 4-3. Xavier picked up the doubles points, and singles wins in the No. 1 spot for Ahmeir Kyle and the No. 2 spot for Kat Lyman.
At Miami (Ohio)

- Miami went 10-13 overall and 4-10 in MAC play last season.
- Xavier took a 5-2 win in last season's meeting, taking singles wins in the No. 2-5 spots.

- The Bearcats went 6-10 overall and 0-4 in conference action.
- Cincinnati fell 4-1 to USF in the first round of the AAC Championships.
- Xavier took a 4-3 win in last season's match against the Bearcats. The Musketeers picked up the doubles point, and singles wins on the No. 2, 3 and 6 courts.
vs. Cleveland State

- The Vikings went 8-12 overall and 6-6 in Horizon League play.
- CSU fell 4-1 to UIC in the Horizon League Semfinals.
- Xavier took a 7-0 win in the last match-up in 2019-20. Current Musketeers Ahmeir Kyle and Anna Roggenburk took singles wins in the No. 1 and No. 2 spots, respectively.
at Charlotte

- The 49ers went 21-7 overall and 2-1 in C-USA play last spring.
- Charlotte took a 4-0 win over La Tech in the opening round of the Conference USA Championships, then fell to Florida Atlantic, 4-1, in the second round.
- Xavier last faced Charlotte in the 2011 Atlantic 10 tournament, falling 4-1.

- The Bulldogs went 6-10 overall and 1-2 in BIG EAST play last season.
- Butler took a 4-0 win over Seton Hall in the first round of the BIG EAST Championship before falling 4-0 to DePaul in the quarterfinals.
- Xavier took the win, 4-3, in last season's match-up with the Bulldogs, winning the No. 1, No. 2, No. 4 and No. 5 singles spots.
at Marquette

Milwaukee, Wisc.
- The Golden Eagles went 6-8 overall last season and 0-3 in BIG EAST play.
- MU took a 4-0 win over Georgetown in the BIG EAST Tournament first round before Marquette's season came to an end when Xavier took a 4-0 win in the quarterfinals. Xavier took the doubles point, then wins on the No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6 singles courts.
- Xavier also picked up the win in the regular season match-up, 5-2, taking the doubles points and singles courts No. 1, No. 2, No. 3 and No. 5.
at DePaul
April 16
Chicago, Ill.
- The Blue Demons finished 11-5 overall land 3-1 in BIG EAST play.
- DU used wins against Butler (4-0) and Villanova (4-1) in the BIG EAST Tournament to advance to the championship match.
- DePaul's season came to an end in the BIG EAST Championship match when Xavier took a 4-1 win to take the BIG EAST title. Xavier took the doubles point and the first two singles decisions, on the No. 3 and No. 4 court before DePaul picked up a point. Kat Lyman secured the win on the No. 2 singles court.
- Xavier also took the win in the regular season match, 4-3, taking the doubles point and the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 5 singles courts.
