Xavier Basketball Kicks off 2022-23 Season with Musketeer Madness Presented by Heartland Bank

CINCINNATI - Xavier men's and women's basketball celebrated the opening of basketball season with 2022 Musketeer Madness, presented by Heartland Bank. Over 6,000 Xavier fans filled Cintas Center for a first glimpse of the 2022-23 Musketeers.

WOMEN'S 3-PT SHOOTOUT

Musketeer Madness kicked off with the introductions for the 2022-23 Xavier women's basketball team and the introduction of head coach Melanie Moore prior to her fourth season.
Kaysia Woods, Fernanda Ovalle, Kaleigh Addie and Mackayla Scarlett each partnered with a student in a three-point shootout.
Mackayla Scarlett and Kaysia Woods tied with eight in the first round to go to a second round, where they tied again at seven.
In the final round Kaysia Woods claimed the 3-Point Shootout title with a 13-12 advantage.

MEN'S SCRIMMAGE

Following the women's three-point shootout, the 2022-23 men's basketball team was introduced, as well as Sedler Famiy Men's Basketball Head Coach Sean Miller, who is in his first season in his return to Xavier.
2022 Musketeer Madness closed with a men's scrimmage, featuring two 12-minute halves.
Xavier White picked up the 50-46 win over Xavier Blue, with Souley Boum leading all scorers with 16 points. Jack Nunge led Blue with 13 points.
Blue led 23-21 after the first half, led by nine points from Nunge, with Adam Kunkel adding eight. Boum had 11 first half points for White.
White outscored Blue 29-23 in the second half, led by five points each for Boum, Colby Jones, KyKy Tandy and Zach Freemantle. Jerome Hunter had eight second half points to lead Blue after the break.

SEASON OPENERS

Women's basketball opens the season on the road, traveling to face the Miami RedHawks on Monday, November 7 in Oxford, Ohio, set for a 6:00 p.m. start.
Xavier's women open the home schedule on Thursday, November 10, hosting Detroit Mercy at Cintas Center at 7:00 p.m.
Men's basketball will face Kentucky Wesleyan in an exhibition at Cintas Center on Wednesday, November 2 at 7:00 p.m.
The Musketeers will officially open the season on Monday, November, 7, hosting Morgan State at 7:30 p.m.
