Sofia Mazzucato and Ellie Brotherton sign to become Musketeers
CINCINNATI - Xavier women's tennis head coach Doug Matthews announced the addition of a pair of signees, Sofia Mazzucato and Ellie Brotherton, for the Fall 2022 signing period.
"I'm excited to welcome Sofia and Ellie to the Xavier tennis family," said Matthews. "They are both perfect fits for our program. They are competitive, care about the team first, academically oriented, and really good tennis players. I can't wait for them to get to Xavier next fall."

Sofia Mazzucato is a five-star recruit out of Houston, Texas, where she attends Memorial High School. She's been ranked as high as No. 39 in the nation and is currently ranked in the top-10 in Texas by Tennis Recruiting Network.
"Sofia is a winner," said Matthews. "You don't earn the ranking of No. 39 in the country by accident. She is very consistent, a really good mover, and has some sneaky power as well. It was clear from my first conversation with her that she would be a great fit for our program!"
During her prep career, Mazzucato has won the 2021 Girl's 18 Texas Grand Slam, J4 Leon Doubles and L3 Doubles in 2022. She was a part of the 2019 Texas 6A High School Team Championship squad, was a 2022 Texas 6A High School finalist and was part of the 2022 L1 Spring Team Championship second-place finishing team, earning the sportsmanship award.

Ellie Brotherton is a four-star recruit out of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, where she attends Laurel School. She's been ranked as high as No. 111 in the nation and is currently ranked in the top-10 in Ohio by Tennis Recruiting Network.
"Ellie is a really hard worker who keeps getting better," said Matthews. "She has moved up in the rankings each of the last four years. She is very consistent, a good mover, and is continuing to add offense to her game. This is the sixth straight year we have had an Ohio girl sign with us. It's important for us to get the best kids in Ohio to our program! "
During her prep career, Brotherton won the Nation Level 1 Zonals Team Championship, and was the USTA Level 4 Doubles Champion. She also won the USTA National Level 3 Singles Consolation Championship and was a Doubles Finalist. At Laurel, Brotherton is a three-time MVP and a four-time All-Ohio State qualifier, finishing third in state singles in 2022 with a 15-1 record and finishing as double runner up in 2019. Academically, Brotherton was inducted into the Laurel School Cum laude Society for outstanding academic achievement.
