Freemantle Posts Triple-Double vs Stags, Musketeers Move to 3-0

Xavier defeated Fairfield, 78-65, on Tuesday night at Cintas Center
CINCINNATI -Â Zach Freemantle posted a triple-double on Tuesday night, leading Xavier men's basketball to a 78-65 win over Fairfield. The Musketeers moved to 3-0 on the year, while the Stags dropped to 0-3.
Freemantle had 15 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists - becoming the first Musketeer to post a triple-double since Myles Davis on Feb. 17, 2016 (11 points, 12 rebounds and 12 assists).
Fairfield led by as many as 10 points (17-7) with 14:47 left in the first half. The Stags maintained their lead until the Musketeers tied the game, 23-23, at the 6:59 mark. Fairfield outscored Xavier, 14-12, to close the half - taking a two-point lead (37-35) into the locker room.
Xavier hit three of its first five shots to open the second half, taking 42-41 lead it would never relinquish. The Musketeers hit 66.7 percent of its second-half shots, outscoring the Stags, 43-28, to pull away for the win.
Xavier led by as many as 15 points (78-63) with eight seconds remaining in regulation. Jack Nunge scored 18 points in the second half.Â
• Jack Nunge led four Musketeers in double figures with a game-high 23 points. The forward was 8-for-11 form the floor and 3-for-3 from behind the arc. He added seven rebounds, three assists and three blocks.
• Adam Kunkel finished with 21 points on 8-for-13 shooting. He was 4-for-8 from behind the arc. The guard added two assists, two steals and one rebound.
• Zach Freemantle added 15 points on 6-for-13 shooting. He added a game-high 13 rebounds and a game-high 10 assists. The forward also had two blocked shots.
• Souley Boum added 11 points on 4-for-9 shooting to go along with seven rebounds and five assists. Desmond Claude chipped in six points and a game-high three steals.
• Xavier finished the game with a .526 field-goal percentage (30-for-57), including a .667 clip (16-for-24) in the second half. The Musketeers were also 7-for-16 from behind the arc and 11-for-20 from the foul line.
• Xavier scored four more points off of turnovers (18-14) and had 22 more points in the paint (44-22). Fairfield held a 17-6 advantage in bench points and score five more second-chance points (12-7).

• Xavier returns to action on Friday, Nov. 18 vs No. 12 Indiana. Tip-off is slated for 6 p.m. with the game being aired nationally on FS1.
