Men's Basketball Falls to No. 12 Indiana on Friday Night

The Hoosiers escaped Cintas Center with an 81-79 victory
CINCINNATI - Xavier men's basketball dropped an 81-79 game to No. 12 Indiana on Friday night at Cintas Center in front of 10,586 fans - the 14th largest crowd in Cintas Center history. Xavier moved to 3-1 on the year, while the Hoosiers improved to 3-0.
The Musketeers trailed by eight points (78-70) with 2:25 left in regulation before storming back with a 9-2 run to close within one point (80-79) with 56 seconds on the clock. A Souley Boum three pointer capped the run as he had four points down the stretch.
Adam Kunkel missed a driving layup with four seconds on the clock before fouling on the ensuing possession. Indiana's Xavier Johnson sank a free throw with two seconds left for the final 81-79 ledger.
• Souley Boum and Zach Freemantle led five Musketeers in double figures with 15 points each. Jack Nunge added 14 points, while Colby Jones and Adam Kunkel both chipped in 13 points.
• Jack Nunge added a team-high eight rebounds, while Colby Jones added seven rebounds. Jones also dished out a team-high six assists and recorded a game-high three steals.
• Indiana won the battle on the glass, 37-34, and scored six more points off of turnovers (15-9). The Hoosiers also had four more second-chance points (15-11) and 10 more points in the paint (50-40).
• Xavier hit 43.8 percent (28-for-64) of its shot attempts and went 7-for-17 from behind the arc. The Musketeers were also 16-for-22 from the foul line.
• The game featured six lead changes and seven ties. Xavier had its largest lead of the game in the first half (28-19 at the 7:21 mark).
• Xavier returns to action on Thursday, Nov. 24 vs Florida in Portland, Ore., at the Phil Knight Legacy Tournament. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m. ET with the game being aired nationally on ESPN2.
