
Addie, Scarlett Lead Musketeers to Season-Opening Victory at Miami (Ohio)

Freshman Kaleigh Addie scored a team-high 21 points on Monday night
OXFORD, Ohio - Freshman Kaleigh Addie scored a team-high 21 points in her Musketeer debut and Mackayla Scarlett added a career-high 19 points, leading the Musketeers to an 87-68 win on Monday night at Miami (Ohio).
• Xavier took an early 9-5 lead at the 5:47 mark in the first quarter on a basket from Taylor Smith. Miami responded with a 7-0 run, taking a three-point lead (12-9) at the 4:20 mark. The Musketeers ended the quarter on a 5-2 run, making the score 14-14.
• Xavier opened the second quarter on a 7-3 run capped by a Kaleigh Addie three pointer, taking a 21-17 advantage. The RedHawks responded with a 4-0 run to tie the game for a fifth time, forcing a Xavier timeout with 6:16 left in the first half.
• Miami went on a 9-4 run to take a five-point lead (30-25) before the Musketeers scored 10 unanswered points to take a five-point lead, 35-30, with 1:43 on the clock. The RedHawks ended the half on a 4-2 run to close within three points (37-34) at the break.
• Kaleigh Addie led Xavier with 16 points on 6-for-8 shooting at intermission, while Kaysia Woods chipped in eight points. Taylor Smith added seven points.
• Xavier held an 18-17 advantage on the glass with Shelby Calhoun leading the Musketeers with four rebounds. The Musketeers forced 15 turnovers, converting the miscues into 15 points.
• Miami started the second half on a 7-3 run, regaining the lead, 41-40, and forcing a Xavier timeout at the 7:08 mark. The Musketeers responded by going on a 22-8 run on 10-for-12 shooting, taking a 64-49 lead into the final quarter. The Musketeers hit 73.3 percent (11-for-15) of their shot attempts in the in the frame.
• Xavier outscored Miami, 23-19, in the final quarter to pull away for the 87-68 victory. Mackayla Scarlett scored 10 of her 19 points in the final frame.

• Taylor Smith chipped in 13 points, five rebounds, three steals and two assists. Kaysia Woods finished with 10 points, three rebounds, one steal and one block.
• Shelby Calhoun matched her career high in rebounding with 11. The guard added six points, four assists and two steals in 22 minutes of action off the bench.
• Xavier won the battle on the glass, 39-31, and scored 20 points off of turnovers. The Musketeers forced 23 RedHawk turnovers. Xavier also scored six more fastbreak points (10-4).
• Xavier hit 49.2 percent of its shot attempts (31-for-63) and was 8-for-11 from behind the arc. Xavier finished the game 17-for-25 from the foul line.
• Xavier moved to 3-1 in season openers under Coach Melanie Moore and 27-14 since 1982-83. The Musketeers are now 5-3 vs the RedHawks when playing in Oxford.
• The 87 points are the most in a game for Xavier since Dec. 18, 2018 vs Alabama State (W, 87-58).
