Xavier Posts Fourth Straight Win Over Cincinnati in Skyline Chili Crosstown Shootout

Musketeers Top Bearcats, 80-77, on Saturday at Fifth Third Arena
CINCINNATI - Xavier men's basketball posted its fourth straight win over Cincinnati in the Skyline Chili Crosstown Shootout on Saturday afternoon, topping the Bearcats, 80-77, at Fifth Third Arena. Xavier improved to 7-3 on the year, while Cincinnati dropped to 6-4.
Xavier led by as many as 17 points at halftime (41-24) before the Bearcats battled back to tie the game, 77-77, with 11 seconds left in regulation. Cincinnati hit 62.5 percent (20-for-32) of its shot attempts in the second half to the engineer the comeback effort.
Souley Boum sank three free throws in the closing seconds to give Xavier an 80-77 advantage 0.7 seconds left on the clock. Jack Nunge deflected a baseline throw-in by the Bearcats on the final play of the game to seal the victory for the Musketeers.
• Souley Boum scored a team-high 21 points on 6-for-12 shooting to go along with six rebounds, three assists and two steals. The guard was also 2-for-4 from behind the arc and 7-for-9 from the foul line. He has scored 20 or more points in a game five times this season.
• Colby Jones finished with 15 points on 5-for-10 shooting and matched his season high in rebounds with seven. The guard added four assists and two steals.
• Jack Nunge posted 18 points on 8-for-16 shooting, his eighth double-figure game of the season. He also eclipsed the 1,000-point mark for his college career in the win (now has 1,014 points). The forward added three rebounds and one steal.
• Zach Freemantle added 14 points and 12 rebounds, his fourth double-double of the season. The forward added three assists and two steals.
• Xavier finished the game with a .452 field-goal percentage (20-for-32). The Musketeers were also 8-for-23 from behind the arc and 16-for-21 from the foul line.
• Xavier held a 21-14 advantage in points off of turnovers and scored two more points in the paint (36-34). The Musketeers also scored three more second-chance points (10-7).
• The Musketeers return to action on Tuesday, Dec. 13 vs Southern in the team's non-conference finale. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. from Cintas Center.
