Souley Boum Named BIG EAST Conference Player Of The Week

This is Boum's third-straight week with a BIG EAST honor.
CINCINNATI --- Xavier University graduate student Souley Boum has been named The BIG EAST Conference Player of the Week. Boum averaged 22.5 points, 7.0 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 3.0 steals in Xavier wins over Southern on Dec. 13 and at Georgetown on Dec. 16.
Boum shot 59.5 percent (16-27) from the field for the two games, including 60 percent (9-15) from 3-point range. He scored a Xavier career-high 28 points at Georgetown on Friday in his first career BIG EAST game, including 20 in the second half, to go with seven assists, seven rebounds, four steals and only one turnover.
This marks the third straight week that Boum has earned a BIG EAST honor after being named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll on Dec. 5 and Dec. 12. XU has had a player honored by the BIG EAST in each of the first six weeks of the conference weekly awards. Junior Colby Jones (Nov. 28) and senior Zach Freemantle (Nov. 14 and Nov. 21) have both been named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll this season.
Boum leads the team in scoring and is second in BIG EAST at 17.9 ppg. He is second on the team in assists and ranks 10th in the BIG EAST at 4.4 apg.
Xavier hosts Seton Hall on Tuesday night at 8:30 p.m.
