No. 21 Xavier Returns Home To Host Butler On Wednesday Night
02.01.22 | Men's Basketball
Musketeers play four of their next five games at home.
Xavier plays four of its next five games at Cintas Center. XU hosts DePaul on Saturday, Feb. 5, UConn on Friday, Feb. 11 in a rescheduled game, and St. John's on Wednesday, Feb. 16. The lone road game during that stretch is at Seton Hall on Wednesday, Feb. 9.
Xavier will wear shirts during pre-game warmups that will be branded for the Black Fives Foundation and specifically the Lion Tamers of Cincinnati. This year for Black History Month, the BIG EAST Conference is partnering with the Black Fives Foundation to preserve, educate and honor the pre-NBA history of African Americans in basketball. Every BIG EAST institution will host a game in February that celebrates these pioneers in the member school's communities and to highlight their impact on the game of basketball and the community as a whole. Much like the Negro Leagues of baseball, prior to the integration of the National Basketball Association in 1950, a nationwide-barnstorming circuit was created of independent African American teams. This era, which ran from the early 1900s to 1950, became known as the "Black Fives" Era, referring to the five starting players on a basketball team.
