Day One at BIG EAST Swimming Championships Complete

Men and women each pick up a second-place finish, and new school record, to stand in third place after two races
EAST MEADOW, N.Y. – Following the first day of action at the 2022 BIG EAST Championships, Xavier men's and women's swimming both stand in third place. Both teams opened the meet with a silver medal and a new school record, with the women picking up a second place finish with a school-best finish in the 800 free and the men picked up a silver and school record in the 200 medley relay.
The Championship continues tomorrow with prelims set to begin at 10 a.m.

WOMEN'S NOTABLE |
- Brooke Atkins, Lydia Schaeffer, Hannah Pugh and Kali Fischer led off the meet with a season-best time of 1:41.54 in the 200 medley relay, finishing fourth.
- The Musketeers set a new school record and picked up a second place finish in the 800 free relay, with Kali Fischer, Clara Keiser, Emma Swabb and Alexis Worrall finishing in 7:17.95. Kali Fischer's split of 1:49.04 is a new team record as well.
- Xavier stood in third place after the first three events, including diving event in which they did not compete.

MEN'S NOTABLE |
- Christian Thomas, Ethan Saunders, Joey Mullen and Andrew Martin set a new school record and picked up a silver medal in the 200 medley relay, finishing in 1:28.12.
- Andrew Martin, Jon Bernard, Brett Wilson and Nathan Wall set a time of 6:36.74 in the 800 free relay to finish fourth. Andrew Martin upped his own school record in the 200 free on the lead leg with a 1:36.43 split.
- Xavier is tied with Villanova for third after the first two event on the men's side.
