Andrew Martin, Christian Thomas win individual titles; Men win 200 free relay

EAST MEADOW, N.Y. – Xavier men's and women's swimming wrapped up day two of the 2021 BIG EAST Swimming Championships, collecting three event titles and four new school records.

On the women's side, Kali Fischer bested her own school record in the 200 IM on the way to placing second, and then helped the 200 free relay squad to another silver medal. For the men, Andrew Martin (500 free) and Christian Thomas (50) free repeated as BIG EAST Champions, with Martin bettering his own school record along the way. Jack Parker broke a 200 IM record that stood for a decade on the way to a silver medal, and Xavier's men used a school record time in the 200 free relay to take first.

Day three of the four day championship beings on Friday at 10 a.m. with prelims, with finals set for 5:45 p.m.

WOMEN'S NOTABLE

Erin Ritz led the Musketeers in the finals of the 500 free, finishing in 4:59.21 to score in 13th place, collecting 14 points in the B-Final of the three-final format on the women's side for 2022. Emma Swabb and Clara Keiser touch just behind Ritz in the B-Final and Tilly Baldwin and Emma Jury took part in the C-Final as well.
Kali Fischer upped her own school in the 200 IM during prelims, finishing in 2:01.75. She bested that mark in the finals, finishing in 2:01.40 to pick up the silver medal.
Clare Bosse, Hannah Pugh, Sophia Romero and Julianne Libler competed in the B-Final of the 200 IM while Brooke Atkins took the top spot in the Bonus Final. Lydia Schaeffer also competed in the C-Final.
Reese Turner posted a time of 23.77 in the Bonus final of the 50 free to lead the Xavier women in the finals. Molly Dynda and Erin Merke both qualified for the B-Final and Alexis Worrall took part in the C-Final.
Xavier's women closed out the second day with a second-place finish in the 200 free relay, with Reese Turner, Molly Dynda, Erin Merke and Kali Fischer finishing in 1:32.78.
Xavier's women are in fourth place with 338 points after four races during the day two finals.

MEN'S NOTABLE

Andrew Martin, the top qualifier in the men's 500 free, broke his own school record and set an NCAA B-Cut time in the finals of the 500 free to repeat as champion.
Adam Lamping also qualified for the Championship final, finishing in sixth. Brett Wilson and Nick Mahoney also scored, competing in the B-Final
Jack Parker led the Musketeers in the 200 IM, breaking a 10 year old record set by Michael Zennedjian in 2012, finishing in 1:47.85 to tie for second place.
Nathan Wall, Michael Benington and Jon Bernard all scored in the championship final as well, finishing sixth through eighth respectively. Davis Klein took part in the B-Final of the 200 IM.
Christian Thomas used a time of 20.28 in the Championship Final of the 50 free to repeat as BIG EAST Champion.
Ethan Saunders finished fifth, Gage Hannewyk placed sixth and Ethan Wing placed eighth in the Championship Final of the 50 free.
Joey Mullen took the top spot in the consolation final of the 50 free.
Xavier's men closed out the night with a BIG EAST title and a new school record in the 200 free relay, with Christian Thomas, Gage Hannewyk, Ethan Saunders and Andrew Martin finishing in 1:20.07
Xavier moved into first place with 270.5 points after four races and a diving competition in which the Musketeers did not compete during the day two finals.
