Beavers held to fewest run total so far this season
SURPRISE, Az. -Â Xavier baseball hung on against one of the best offenses in the country for six innings, but Oregon State pulled away in the end to win 9-0. Bryce Barnett took the loss despite only allowing one hit in his five innings of work.
Oregon State scored a run in the first and second inning, benefiting mainly from walks and hit by pitches. Xavier had two runners on in the first, but failed to capitalize. Barnett wouldn't allow another run to cross the place until his departure, as he left with four strike outs and only a two run deficient. However, the Beaver offense scored one in the sixth and two more in the seventh off Bobby Jones, before blowing it open with four runs in the eighth. Xavier couldn't mount the comeback, as it was their first shutout of the season despite holding Oregon State to their fewest run output so far this season- nine.
Xavier is back in action with Oregon State tomorrow in the series finale; first pitch is set for 3:00 p.m. ET on FloSports.
