Shelby Calhoun posted her first career double-double on Friday with 22 points and 11 rebounds
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Three Musketeers scored 20 or more points in Friday's 91-86 BIG EAST loss at Seton Hall at Walsh Gymnasium.
Xavier dropped to 7-14 (2-10 BIG EAST) on the year, while the Pirates improved to 10-10 (5-7 BIG EAST).
• Seton Hall opened the game on a 9-4 run before the Musketeers responded with an 11-6 run, tying the game at 15-15 with 50 seconds on the clock. The Pirates scored four straight points before Shelby Calhoun hit a corner three pointer at the buzzer, making it a one-point game (19-18) after one quarter of action.
• Shelby Calhoun scored the first five points of the second frame, giving Xavier a four-point lead (23-19) and forcing a Seton Hall timeout. The Pirates went on a 14-4 run, taking its largest lead of the first half, 33-27, with 4:27 on the clock.
• Xavier hit its next four baskets, using a 10-2 run run to regain the lead, 37-35, with just over two minutes on the clock. Seton Hall closed the half by outscoring Xavier, 7-4, to make the score 42-41 at the break.
• Aanaya Harris led Xavier with 12 points on 5-for-7 shooting at intermission, while Shelby Calhoun added 10 points. Courtney Prenger led the team on the glass with five rebounds as the Musketeers held a 19-12 advantage on the glass.
• Xavier hit 57.1 percent of its shot attempts (16-for-28) in the first half. Seton Hall held a 17-9 advantage in points off of turnovers.
• Seton Hall scored six straight points to open the second half and led by as many as seven points (52-45) with six minutes on the clock. Xavier responded with a 5-0 run to close within two points (52-50) at the 5:04 mark. The Pirates led by as many as four points (60-56) with 1:55 left in the frame before the Musketeers used a 7-2 run, taking a one-point lead (63-62) into the final quarter.
• Seton Hall opened the final frame on an 11-4 run, taking a 73-67 lead and forcing a Xavier timeout. Xavier battled back with a 14-8 run, tying the game for the eighth time, 81-81, with 2:06 left in regulation. The Pirates finished the game by outscoring Xavier, 10-5, with eight points coming from the foul line (8-for-11).
• An Aanaya Harris basket with 19 seconds on the clock got the Musketeers within three points (89-86), but Seton Hall sank a pair of free throws on the next possession to seal the win.
• Kae Satterfield led Xavier with a career-high 24 points on 8-for-16 shooting. She added eight rebounds and matched her career high in assists with eight. She was also 8-for-9 from the foul line.
• Shelby Calhoun recorded her first career double-double, scoring a career-high 22 points and grabbing a career-high 11 rebounds. She was 7-for-14 from the floor and added two assists and two steals.
• Aanaya Harris matched her career high in scoring with 20 points on 8-for-11 shooting. She added four rebounds and went 4-for-4 from the foul line.
• Mackayla Scarlett added eight points, while Courtney Prenger chipped in five rebounds and four points. Kaysia Woods finished with four points and two steals.
• Xavier scored a season-high 86 points behind a .500 field-goal percentage (32-for-64), the team's third game shooting 50 percent or better from the floor this season. The Musketeers were also 19-for-25 from the foul line in the loss.
• Xavier won the battle on the glass, 36-30, and scored four more second-chance points (12-8). Seton Hall forced 17 Xavier turnovers, converting the miscues into 19 points. The game featured eight ties and eight lead changes.
• Xavier returns to action on Sunday, Feb. 6 vs St. John's. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m. from Cintas Center.
