Nine Musketeers collect hits on 16-hit day; Luke Franzoni matches career high with five RBI
Xavier jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first after Jack Housinger got into scoring position with a one-out triple, then came home on a Luke Franzoni fly ball. In the second, Xavier padded the lead, adding five runs on five hits with Alex Helmin driving in Grant Stephenson on an RBI single, Luke Franzoni picking up a pair of RBIs on a double, scoring Garrett Schultz and Helmin, and Andrew Walker hitting a two-RBI triple to bring in Jack Housinger and Franzoni.
Xavier made it an 9-0 lead in the third, taking advantage of a Winthrop error after a pair of lead-off walks to bring in a pair of runs, then brining in another run on a Luke Franzoni walk with the bases loaded.
Garrett Schultz's first home run of the season, in the fourth, and Luke Franzoni's ninth homer of the year, in the sixth, helped offset two Eagle runs in the fourth inning, and then the Musketeers added two more in the sixth for the 13-2 lead. Jack Housinger added a run in the ninth on a home run, to set the final score at 14-2.
The Musketeers are back in action tomorrow with the first of four games at Coastal Carolina. The series opener on Friday has been moved up to 11:00 a.m. from the original start time of 4:00 p.m., due to forecasted weather.

- The Musketeers finished with a season-high 16Â hits, topping the previous season-high of 15 set on Tuesday at South Carolina.
- Andrew Walker went 4-5 at the plate and was just a home run shy of hitting for the cycle. Walker drove in a pair of RBI and came around to score a run.
- Luke Franzoni knocked in his ninth home run of the season and led the Musketeers with five RBI, matching his career-high, set in both 2019 and 2020. Franzoni finished 2-5 at the plate with a walk and came around to score two runs.
- Garrett Schultz went 2-2 at the plate with a walk, knocking in his first home run of the season. Schultz drove in two RBI and came around to score three runs.
- Jack Housinger hit his third home run of the season in the ninth, finishing the day 2-4 at the plate with a walk, and coming around to score three runs.
- Jerry Huntzinger, Tyler DeMartino, Jared Cushing and Alex Helmin each finished with a hit, with Helmin and DeMartino both driving in an RBI.

- Dorsey Chatham made the start, his first as a Musketeer, holding the Eagles scoreless for three innings while the Musketeers built a 10-0 lead. Chatham finished with 3.2 innings of work, allowing just two runs on two hits and three walks.
- Luke Hoskins entered for the final out of the fourth, going 2.1 innings, not allowing a run and giving up just two hits. Hoskins picked up the win, his first as a Musketeer.
- Connor Bailey entered for the seventh, holding the Eagles to just one base-runner, on a walk, in a scoreless inning of work, striking out two.
- Justin Loer came in for the eighth inning, going 2.0 scoreless innings to close out the game, allowing three hits.
