Xavier Baseball Takes Game One with Cincinnati

Cincinnati plated a run in the first inning, and held the 1-0 lead into the fourth. Xavier score three in the inning, with Garrett Schultz knocking in one on an RBI double, and Matthew DePrey hitting a two-RBI single to give Xavier the the 3-1 inning headed to the bottom of the innings.
The Bearcats responded with a three-run bottom of the frame to retake a 4-3 lead, but the Musketeer offense responded immediately, manufacturing a pair of runs to inch back in front, 5-4.
The one-run Xavier advantage held into the ninth, when a two-run homer from Jack Housinger, followed by a one-run shot from Luke Franzoni put Xavier up 8-4. Both proved to be crucial with Cincinnati scoring three in the bottom of the ninth to make it one run game before Xavier won by a score of 8-7.
Xavier is back in action with Cincinnati tomorrow, hosting the Bearcats at Prasco Park, set for a 4:00 p.m. first pitch.

- Garrett Schultz (2-4) drove in a pair of RBI on his two hits, coming around to score once.
- Luke Franzoni (2-5) hit his 10th homer of the season in the ninth inning, which proved to be the game-winning run. Both of his hits on the day went for extra bases.
- Matthew DePrey finished 2-4 at the plate, driving in a pair of RBI.
- Jack Housinger (1-4, 1 BB) picked up a pair of RBIs on a two-run homer in the ninth.
- Andrew Walker used a pair of walks to get aboard, coming around to score two runs.
- Tyler DeMartino, Jared Cushing and Lane Flamm each recorded a hit as the Musketeers finished with a 10-7 advantage on hits for the game.
- Flamm also finished with a pair of walks, coming around to score after one.

- Trevor Olson made the start, going 4.0 innings, allowing four runs, three earned on five hits and three walks with three strikeouts.
- Luke Bell entered in the fifth, going 2.0 scoreless inning, allowing one on base via a walk and striking out a pair. Bell picked up the win to move to 2-0 on the season.
- Jack Lynch entered for the seventh, facing the minimum in 1.0 inning of work, striking out a pair.
- Bryce Barnett came out for the eighth, facing a pair of batters, allowing two walks.
- Jerry Huntzinger moved from second to the mound to close out the game, going 2.0 innings, allowing three runs on two hits and a walk, but picked up the save in the eventual 8-7 win.
