CINCINNATI, OH - Xavier baseball had to fight from behind today, and after overcoming a 4-0 deficit, they couldn't take the lead. Villanova put forth a steady diet of one-run and two-run innings to outlast the Musketeers and set up a crucial Game Three tomorrow afternoon.

Villanova scored first with two runs in the second inning, and they scored another two runs in the third. The Xavier bats came alive in the bottom of the third, scoring four runs behind a Jerry Huntzinger home run, his third-straight game with a long ball, and an Andrew Walker single and Garrett Schultz sacrifice fly.

The Wildcats retook the lead in the fourth, making it 5-4, and in the seventh they added a couple more insurance runs. Xavier got one back on a Jeff Holtz sacrifice fly, but 7-5 was as close as Xavier would get.

Xavier will play the rubber match tomorrow at 11:30am ET

XU AT THE PLATE

Jerry Huntzinger carried Xavier today with a two-run homer in the fourth to kickstart the Xavier offense. He went 2-5 overall.
Andrew Walker went 1-4 with an RBI and a run.
Tyler DeMartino and Jack Housinger both had base hits and later scored.
Garrett Schultz and Jeff Holtz also had base hits, and each hit a sacrifice fly today.
Rounding out the production at the plate was a Matt DePrey single and a Jared Cushing run.

XU ON THE MOUND

Lane Flamm got the start, striking out three in 3.1 innings, but giving up five runs.
Miles Halligan allowed two baserunners in a scoreless 1.1 innings pitched, striking out one Wildcat.
Jared Gadd pitched 1.1 innings too, allowing two unearned runs on two hits with two strikeouts.
Trevor Olson came on and closed the final three innings, striking out three without allowing a hit.
