Xavier will compete at two meets on April 22-23
CINCINNATI - Xavier track and field continues its outdoor season at the Jesse Owens Classic on April 22-23. The two-day meet is being hosted by Ohio State at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
The Musketeers are also sending Rachel Butler to compete at the Virginia Challenge on April 22. The meet is being held at Lannigan Field in Charlottesville, Va. Butler will race in section two of the 5,000-meter run at 5:40 p.m.

• Xavier had six first-place finishes at the second annual Jim Vargo Invitational on April 8-9. All told, the Musketeers recorded 24 top-10 finishes at the meet. The meet was hosted by Bellarmine at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium in Louisville, Ky.
• On the women's side, Parker Hopkins (1,500-meter run), Haley Morgan (100-meter dash, 200-meter dash) and Claire Sievern (800-meter run) recorded first-place finishes. Trevor Nolan won the 3,000-meter steeplechase to pace the men's squad. The men's 4x400 team (Beam, Clines, Johnson, Thimons) also placed first.

• Xavier competed in six meets during the COVID-19 shortened 2020-21 season.
• The Musketeers had seven student-athletes post career-best finishes at the BIG EAST Outdoor Track and Field Championships on May 14-15. The conference did not hold an indoor championship meet.
• The highlight of the BIG EAST Championships was the 4x800 relay team (Hannah Russell, Parker Hopkins, Abby Fioresi and Robyn Blackwell) breaking the school record in the event, posting a time of 9:04.59.

• Sam Burroughs was named the new head coach for cross country/track and field on Jan. 4, 2021. He joined the Musketeers after previously working as associate head coach at Cincinnati from 2013-20.Â
• Burroughs has over 20 years of collegiate experience. He has coached 96 individual conference champions and 45 individual NCAA qualifiers, while leading 18 teams to conference championship titles.

• Lauren Etheridge was named assistant coach for the cross country and track and field programs in August of 2021. She was previously the head cross country coach at USC Aiken from 2019-21.

• In the spring of 2021, she guided the women's cross country team to an eighth-place finish at the Peach Belt Conference Championships – the team's highest finish since 2011. She restarted the program in 2019 after a one-year hiatus (the women did not have a team in 2018).

• Xavier returns to action on April 28-29 at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa. The Musketeers are also competing at the Clark Wood Invitational in Louisville, Ky. on April 29.
