Diego Nava Competes in the NCAA Singles Championships

URBANA, Ill. - Xavier men's tennis graduate student Diego Nava took part in the NCAA Men's Singles Championship on Monday, taking on No. 23 Alex Reco from the University of Arkansas at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex at the University of Illinois in Urbana, Ill. Nava fell, 6-4, 7-6, to Reco in the first round.

In the first set, Nava took a 2-1 lead before Reco responded to move in front 4-3 before eventually taking the 6-4 win. In the second set, Nava took a 5-4 lead, but Reco responded each time Nava looked for set point, sending the match to tie breaks where Reco took the 7-6 win to clinch the match.

Nava, who was ranked No. 81 in the most recent ITA Rankings, went 13-4 in singles in dual play in 2022, playing in the No. 1 spot for the Musketeers. Nava won his first nine decisions of 2022, including a win over top-15 ranked Cannon Kingsley of Ohio State. Nava earned a unanimous All-BIG EAST First Team selection, was ranked as high as No. 52 in the ITA singles rankings during the season to help earn a spot in the NCAA Singles Championships.
