Rachel Butler Set for NCAA East Prelims

CINCINNATI - Rachel Butler is set to race in the 10,000-meter run at the NCAA East Prelims on Thursday, May 26 at 5:10 p.m. The meet is being hosted by Indiana University at Haugh Track & Field.

The event serves as one of two national semifinals (east and west regionals) as there is no preliminary race for the 10,000-meter run.

The Dublin, Ohio, native currently ranks 27th in the east region and 70th nationally in the event, posting a school-record time of 34:07.02 at the Penn Relays on April 28. The top-12 participates in the race from the two regionals will advance to the NCAA National Championships in Eugene, Ore., on June 8-11.

Butler is the first Xavier student-athlete to advance to the NCAA East Prelims since 2018. Madeline Britton placed 22nd in the 10,000-meter run at the NCAA East Prelims on May 25, 2018 in Tampa, Fla.

Britton most recently competed at the BIG EAST Track and Field Championships on May 13-14 in Storrs, Conn. She placed sixth in the 5,000-meter run in a time of 16:37.20.
