Women’s Basketball Adds June Ruiz Azkue to 2022-23 Roster
CINCINNATI - Xavier head women's basketball coach Melanie Moore has announced the addition of June Ruiz Azkue to the 2022-23 roster.
"We are thrilled to welcome June Ruiz Azkue to our Xavier Women's Basketball Family!" said Moore. "She is a talented guard who shoots it really well from deep range. June has length and plays hard on both ends of the floor. Her experience playing in top leagues and the Spanish Nationals has prepared her for the BIG EAST."
Ruiz Azkue played for the Euskadi State U18 Team and Gernika U18 Team in 2021-22. Playing for Gernika U18 in the Liga Vasca League (top tier league in Spain), she averaged 13.9 points per game with 2.7 three pointers per game. She had season highs of 27 points and seven three pointers in a game.
During the 2020-21 season for Gernika, she averaged 15.7 points in the Junior Liga Vasca League.
Ruiz Azkue also has national level experience, playing in the U18 Spanish Nationals – averaging 14 points and 4.5 rebounds per game. She added 2.1 steals and 2.0 assists per game, while shooting 31 percent from behind the arc. She finished the 10th in scoring at the championships.
During 2019-20, she was an exchange student at Andrews Osborne Academic in Willoughby, Ohio.
