Deacon Thomas, Jorge Santamaria join Musketeers for next season
CINCINNATI – Xavier men's tennis head coach Doug Matthews announced the addition of a pair of players for the 2022-23 season, adding freshman Deacon Thomas and transfer Jorge Santamaria to the roster for next season.
"I'm excited to announce the additions of Deacon and Jorge," said Matthews. "Deacon is a strong lefty with a good serve and forehand. He has had a great summer and will really help our team. Jorge brings great experience as one of the better DII players in the country. His experience and competitiveness will help our young team."
"I'm excited for them as well as Kyle Totorica who signed earlier this year. I'd also like to thank Coach Ryan Rasco for his help with this recruiting class. We would not have been able to get this impressive class without his fantastic work!"
Deacon Thomas is a four-star recruit who comes to Xavier from Houston, Texas. During his prep career, Thomas had a national ranking as high as No. 66, and earned a 13-4 record against four-star players. He has collected tournament wins in the 2022 18s USTA National Level 3 in Georgia and the 2020 16s USTA National Level 3 Tournament in San Antonio. Thomas has been ranked in USTA's National Top 100 and Texas' Top 10 in every junior age division.

Jorge Santamaria comes to Xavier from Palm Beach Atlantic University, where he earned All-Sunshine State Conference honorable mention last season. He led the Sailfish in singles competition with a 9-4 record in 2022. Santamaria, originally from Bogota, Columbia, was ranked as high as No. 48 in the ITA national singles rankings last season. He also played in 14 doubles matches in 2022.
The pair join fellow signee Kyle Totorica, a five star recruit out of San Antonio, Texas, who signed with the Musketeers in November.
