Musketeers look for third-straight BIG EAST title, NCAA bid
CINCINNATI – Xavier women's tennis announced its spring schedule for 2023, set to kick off in mid-January. The Musketeers will face 19 opponents leading up to the 2023 BIG EAST Championship, running from April 20-23 in Cayce, S.C.
Xavier is looking for a third-straight BIG EAST Championship, and fourth overall, and to build on last season's NCAA Championship appearance, the program's third overall and second-straight.
Five letterwinners return from last season's BIG EAST Championship squad, including All-BIG EAST selection Imani Graham, Kat Lyman, Anna Roggenburk, Blessing Nwaozuzu and Bella Kirby. Xavier also added four-person freshman class, Emily Flowers, Paulina Franco Martinessi, Abby Nugent and Abigail Siminski.

- Xavier faced the Norse last season, taking the 6-1 win at Eastern Hills.

- Notre Dame fell, 4-0, to Florida State in the first round of the ACC Tournament.

- UD fell, 4-3, to Saint Joe's in the first round of the A10 Championship.

- Indiana fell, 4-0, to Maryland in the Hoosiers' first match of the Big Ten Tournament.
- Xavier took the 5-0 win over the Hoosier in Bloomington last season.

- The Illini went 16-9 overall last season with an 8-3 record in Big Ten play.
- Illinois fell 4-1 to Wisconsin in the Big Ten Quarterfinals.
- This is the first match-up between the two programs in Xavier's record books.

- The Dukes went 9-11 overall last season with a 1-0 record in their lone CAA match, a 6-1 win over Elon.
- The Musketeers last faced James Madison in 2018, falling 5-1 in Orlando.
at Michigan State
Feb 24 – 10:00 AM
- MSU went 9-14 overall last season with a 1-10 record in Big Ten play.
- Michigan State fell, 4-3, to Iowa in the Spartans' first Big Ten Tournament match.
- Xavier faced the Spartans last season, falling 5-2 at Eastern Hills.
vs. Illinois State (at MSU)

- The Redbirds went 17-7 last season, with a 4-1 record in Missouri Valley Conference play.
- Illinois State topped Missouri State (4-0), Bradley (4-0) and Drake (4-3) on the way to the MVC Tournament Championship, earning a bid to the NCAA Tournament.
- The Redbirds faced Ohio State in the first round of the NCAA Championship, falling 4-0 to the Buckeyes.
- This is the first match-up against Illinois State since 1995.
vs. Southern Indiana

- USI went 7-11 last season, competing primarily in NCAA DII, with an 0-6 record in GLVC play.
- The Screaming Eagles are in their first season competing in NCAA DI.
- This is the first match-up between the two programs in Xavier's record books.

- UofL went 8-15 overall with a 0-14 record in ACC play last year.
- The Cardinals fell 4-3 to Boston College in the opening round of the ACC Championships
- Xavier fell 5-2 to the Cardinals last season.

- The Tigers went 20-7 overall with a 5-1 record in AAC play.
- Memphis topped Tulane (4-3), South Florida (4-0) and Tulsa (4-1) on the way to winning the AAC Championship, earning a berth to the NCAA Championship.
- Memphis faced No. 33 Georgia Tech in the NCAA Tournament, falling 4-1.
- Xavier faced the Tigers last season, falling 5-2 in Memphis.
at Cincinnati

- The Bearcats went 16-7 overall and 1-2 in AAC play last season.
- UC topped Wichita State 5-1 in the opening round of the AAC Championships before falling 4-0 to SMU in the quarterfinals.
- Xavier took the 6-1 win over the Bearcats at Eastern Hills last season.

- DePaul went 9-9 overall last season with a 4-3 record in BIG EAST play.
- The Blue Demons used wins over Butler (4-2) and St. John's (4-2) to advance to the BIG EAST Championship match where DePaul fell to Xavier.
- The Musketeers went 2-0 against the Blue Demons last season, taking a 4-3 win in the regular season in Chicago, and then securing the BIG EAST Championship with a 4-0 win in Cayce, S.C.
vs. Wichita State

- The Shockers went 8-13 last season and earned the No. 10 seed to the AAC Tournament.
- WSU fell 5-1 to Cincinnati in the first round of the AAC Championship.
- Xavier last faced Wichita State in March 2020, falling 5-2 at Eastern Hills.

- The Huskies went 10-12 last season with a 2-3 record in BIG EAST play.
- UConn picked up a 4-0 win over Villanova in the BIG EAST Championship opening round before falling to St. John's in the quarterfinals, 4-0.

- MU picked up a 4-3 win over Creighton in the quarterfinals of the BIG EAST Championship before falling to Xavier in the semis.
- Xavier fell, 4-3, in last season's regular season match-up in Milwaukee before taking a 4-1 win over the Golden Eagles in the BIG EAST Semifinals.

- The Bulldogs went 8-14 last season with a 1-2 record against BIG EAST opponents.
- Butler fell, 4-2, to DePaul in the BIG EAST Championship quarterfinals.
