Women's Soccer Remains Undefeated in BIG EAST Play with 1-0 Win at UConn

STORRS, Conn. - Xavier women's soccer picked up the 1-0 win at UConn on Sunday afternoon, staying unbeaten in BIG EAST play. The Musketeers moved to 10-2-3 overall and 3-0-3 in BIG EAST action.
Xavier took the lead in the 31st minute, with Samantha Wiehe scoring from Sonia Vargas, to take the 1-0 lead into the half. Xavier had a 6-5 advantage on shots in the first 45 minutes, with all six looks on-frame for the Musketeers.
In the second half, UConn held a 7-5 advantage on shots overall looking for the equalizer, but the Musketeers limited the Huskies to just two looks on-goal. Maria Galley collected both to keep the Huskies off the board on the way to the 1-0 Xavier win.
After Sunday's results around the league, Xavier moved back into a tie for first place in the BIG EAST standings with Georgetown, with both teams standing at 3-0-3 with 12 points after the Hoyas played Seton Hall to a 1-1 draw.
Xavier has a bye on Thursday before returning home to host St. John's on Sunday, Oct. 15, set to get underway at 1:00 p.m. on FloSports.
