Maddie Reed, Maria Galley Pick Up BIG EAST Weekly Awards

Samantha Wiehe earns a spot on the Weekly Honor Roll
NEW YORK - A pair of Musketeers, Maddie Reed and Maria Galley, earned BIG EAST weekly honor after helping keep Xavier undefeated in BIG EAST play last week. Reed was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week, while Galley earned Goalkeeper of the Week after helping Xavier to a 0-0 draw against Georgetown and a 1-0 win at UConn to move the Musketeers to 3-0-3 in conference play. Additionally, midfielder Samantha Wiehe earned a spot on the Weekly Honor Roll.
Reed, a senior from Louisville, Ky., played the full time in both matches last week to help Xavier to a pair of shutouts. Against Georgetown, she played 90 minutes helped hold the Hoyas scoreless, limiting GU to season lows in shots (7) and shots on-goal (2). She also played the full time against UConn, helping limit the Huskies to just four shots on-goal, the lowest total for the Huskies in BIG EAST action this season.
Galley, a sophomore from South Windsor, Conn., collected six saves for a pair of shutouts last week. Against the Hoyas, she saved both GU shots on-goal to earn her seventh shutout of the season. Against UConn, she collected all four shots on-goal for her eighth shutout of the season, which are the fifth most clean sheets in the nation and tied for most among BIG EAST goalkeepers. This is Galley's third BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week honor of the season.
Wiehe, a junior from Northfield Ohio, earned a Weekly Honor Roll nod after scoring the game-winner in the 31st minute against UConn, off a pass from Sonia Vargas, helping Xavier pick up its 10th win of the season. The goal was goal was her team-high sixth of the season, and fourth game-winner. Combined with three assists, she leads the team with 15 points.Â
Xavier has a bye on Thursday before hosting St. John's on Sunday, Oct. 15, set to get underway at 1:00 p.m. on FloSports.
