
Musketeers Drop Briann January Classic Opener vs Temple

TEMPE, Ariz. - Xavier women's basketball dropped its opening game of the Briann January Classic vs Temple, 78-41, on Friday evening at Desert Financial Arena. Xavier moves to 0-7 on the year, while the Owls improve to 3-4.
Turnovers proved costly as the Owls converted a season-high 23 Xavier miscues into 31 points.
The opening quarter featured three lead changes and one tie. Xavier led by one point (7-6) with 4:47 left in the first quarter before the Owls closed the frame on a 12-5 run - taking a six-point lead.
Temple never relinquished the lead and led by as many as 40 points with 36 seconds left in regulation.
• Kaysia Woods scored a game-high 16 points on 6-for-10 shooting. She was 4-for-6 from behind the arc and added three rebounds and one assist. The guard has now scored in double figures twice this year. The Lincoln, Neb., native now has four games on the year with multiple made three pointers.
• Lika Kvirkvelia scored a season-high six points on 3-for-6 shooting. The forward added five rebounds in 14 minutes of action off the bench.
• Nila Blackford recorded nine points and four rebounds. The forward added two steals, two assists and one block.
• Xavier finished the game with a .340 field-goal percentage (17-for-50) and went 4-for-12 from behind the arc. The Musketeers were also 3-for-4 from the foul line.
• Temple won the battle on the glass, 37-32, and scored 27 more points off of turnovers (31-4). The Owls also hed a 38-20 advantage in points in the paint and scored 22 more fastbreak points (25-3).
• The Owls hit 49.2 percent (31-for-63) of their shot attempts and went 8-for-21 from behind the arc. Temple was also 8-for-12 from the foul line.
• Xavier wraps up Briann January Classic action on Saturday, Dec. 2 vs the host Sun Devils. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. ET from Desert Financial Arena.
