Women's Basketball Falls in Skyline Chili Crosstown Shootout on Sunday

Cincinnati defeats Xavier, 69-47, at Fifth Third Arena
CINCINNATI - Xavier women's basketball fell in the Skyline Chili Crosstown Shootout vs Cincinnati on Sunday afternoon, 69-47, at Fifth Third Arena.
The Musketeers move to 0-8 on the year, while the Bearcats improved to 5-3.
Xavier led by four points (10-6) with 5:17 on the clock in the opening quarter before the Bearcats scored four unanswered points to tie the game at 10-10. Cincinnati outscored the Musketeers, 7-4, to end the first quarter and take a three-point lead (17-14).
The Bearcats opened the second quarter on an 11-0 run, taking their largest lead of the half, 29-14, with 4:40 on the clock. Xavier scored five unanswered points to close within nine points (28-19) before Malea Williams hit a shot with two seconds remaining in the half, regaining the double-figure lead for the Bearcats (30-19).
Xavier closed within single-digits four times in the third quarter, and as late as the 3:09 mark, but the Bearcats closed the frame on a 6-0 run - taking a 47-32 advantage into the final quarter. Cincinnati outscored Xavier, 22-15, in the final frame to pull away for the 69-47 victory.
• Kaysia Woods scored a team-high 11 points and knocked down a game-high three 3-pointers. The guard added one rebound, one assist and one block. She now has 11 career double-figure scoring games, including three this season.
• Nila Blackford posted 10 points on 4-for-5 shooting and grabbed a team-high five rebounds. She now has 59 career double-figure scoring games, including five this season.
• Tae'lor Purvis added eight points on 4-for-7 shooting to go along with three rebounds and a game-high five assists. Daniela López chipped in a season-high eight points. She added two rebounds and two assists.
• Taylor Smith made her season debut, logging 24 minutes of action off the bench. The guard finished with eight points, two assists and two rebounds.
• Lika Kvirkvelia made her first career start on Sunday afternoon. The freshman forward had three points, one rebound and one assist in 13 minutes of action.
• Xavier finished the game with a .367 field-goal percentage (18-for-49) and went 6-for-24 from behind the arc. The Musketeers were also 5-for-7 from the foul line.
• Cincinnati won the battle on the glass, 39-28, and held a 20-8 advantage in second-chance points. The Bearcats also scored five more points off of turnovers (15-10) and 12 more points in the paint (36-24). Cincinnati held an 11-2 advantage in fastbreak points.
• Xavier limited the Bearcats to a .383 field-goal percentage (23-for-60) and only three made three pointers (3-for-14). Cincinnati went 20-for-27 from the foul line.
• Xavier continues non-conference action vs SIUE on Friday, Dec. 15. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. from Cintas Center.
