
Blackford, Mayo Lead Musketeers Over SIUE on Friday Night

Xavier defeated the Cougars, 68-43, at Cintas Center
CINCINNATI - Xavier women's basketball picked up the first win of the Billi Chambers era on Friday night, defeating SIUE, 68-43, in non-conference action at Cintas Center.
Xavier improves to 1-8 on the year, while the Cougars drop to 2-9.
The Musketeers led from start to finish and took their first double-figure lead with 31 seconds left in the first quarter on an Aizhanique Mayo three pointer. Xavier took its first 20-point lead, 36-16, on a layup from Júlia Garcia Roig with 1:36 left on the clock before halftime.
SIUE closed with seven points (36-29) on a pair of Brianna Wooldridge free throws with 6:21 left in the third quarter before the Musketeers went on a 13-0 run, regaining a 20-point lead they would never relinquish. Xavier led by as many as 26 points twice in the final three minutes of action.
• Xavier scored a season-high 68 points behind a season-high 28 made field goals (28-for-60). The Musketeers also posted a season-high .467 field-goal percentage and pulled down a season-high 41 rebounds. Xavier knocked down eight 3-pointers, the second-most threes in a game for the Musketeers this season.
• Xavier won by 26 points on Friday night vs SIUE. The last time the Musketeers won by 26 or more points was on Nov. 13, 2022 vs Saint Francis (PA) - defeated the Red Flash, 78-52, at Cintas Center.
• Defensively, Xavier limited the Cougars to a season-low 43 points and a season-low .192 field-goal percentage (10-for-52). The 10 made field goals is also a season low for SIUE. The last time Xavier held an opponent below 20 percent shooting was on Dec. 9, 2022 vs Cincinnati (.179 field-goal percentage). The Musketeers also forced 21 turnovers, the third time Xavier has forced 20 or more turnovers in a game this year.

• Aizhanique Mayo led nine Musketeers who scored on Friday night with 14 points in 22 minutes of action off the bench. The freshman guard was 6-for-11 from the floor with two 3-pointers in her collegiate debut. She added three rebounds, three assists and two steals.
• Nila Blackford posted her 26th career double-double, scoring 12 points and grabbing a game-high 11 rebounds. The forward was 6-for-10 from the floor. She added three steals and a game-high two blocks.
• Júlia Garcia Roig scored a season-high 10 points on 4-for-5 shooting in 19 minutes of action off the bench. The freshman guard added four assists and two rebounds.
• Kaysia Woods finished with eight points on 3-for-5 shooting with a pair of three pointers. She added three assists, one rebound and one block.
• Tae'lor Purvis chipped in four points, a career-high seven rebounds and a game-high six assists. The guard added a game-high four steals.
• Xavier finished the game with 11 steals, the team's third game of the season with 10 or more steals. The Musketeers also dished out a season-high 23 assists, the first time Xavier has posted 20 or more assists in a game since Nov. 22, 2022 vs McNeese State (30 assists). Xavier also matched its season high in blocks with five (also had five blocks vs Kent State on Nov. 21).
• Xavier won the battle on the glass, 41-38, and held a 21-10 advantage in points off of turnovers. The Musketeers also scored 27 more bench points (35-8) and held a 40-10 advantage in points in the paint.
