Xavier hit a season-high 11 three pointers on Wednesday afternoon
CINCINNATI - Xavier women's basketball dropped its BIG EAST opener vs DePaul, 76-55, on Wednesday afternoon at Cintas Center.
The Musketeers moved to 1-9 (0-1 BIG EAST), while the Blue Demons improved to 8-5 (1-0 BIG EAST).
DePaul led from start to finish and jumped out to an early 30-9 with 6:59 left in the first half. Xavier closed within 14 points (36-22) on a Taylor Smith three pointer with 1:13 on the clock before DePaul scored four unanswered points to end the half, taking a 40-22 advantage into the locker room.
DePaul maintained its double-figure lead for the duration of the contest and led by as many as 30 points (74-44) with 4:52 left in regulation.
• Xavier made a season-high 11 three pointers (11-for-27), the team's first game of the season with double-figure made three pointers. The Musketeers made 11 or more three pointers in a game for the first time since Jan. 10, 2020 at Georgetown (went 13-for-20 from behind the arc in an 85-64 victory).
• Seven different Musketeers made a three pointer, paced by Kaysia Woods who made three (3-for-7). Daniela López and Tae'lor Purvis each added two 3-pointers.
• Tae'lor Purvis and Kaysia Woods led Xavier with nine points each. Purvis also dished out a game-high six assists, while grabbing four rebounds. Woods added two steals and two rebounds.
• Daniela López finished with eight points, while Lika Kvirkvelia and Aizhanique Mayo chipped in seven points. López added four rebounds, two assists and one block.
• Nila Blackford led the team on the glass with six rebounds. The forward added four points, one block and one steal.
• Xavier finished the game with a .358 field-goal percentage (19-for-53) and went 6-for-8 from the charity stripe. DePaul hit 42 percent (29-for-69) of its shot attempts and went 7-for-26 from behind the arc. The Blue Demons were also 11-for-13 from the foul line.
• DePaul won the battle on the glass, 39-31, and held a 29-7 advantage in points off of turnovers. The Musketeers committed a season-high 26 turnovers.
• DePaul also scored 23 more fastbreak points (23-0) and held a 38-14 advantage in points in the paint. The Blue Demons also scored 13 more bench points (31-18).
• Xavier returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 30 at Villanova. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m. from Finneran Pavilion.
