
Xavier Drops BIG EAST Road Contest at Villanova

Daniela López led the Musketeers with 12 points and five rebounds
VILLANOVA, Pa. - Xavier women's basketball dropped an 86-45 BIG EAST matchup at Villanova on Saturday afternoon at Finneran Pavilion.
The Musketeers move to 1-10 (0-2 BIG EAST), while the Wildcats improve to 8-5 (1-1 BIG EAST).
The Wildcats never trailed in the game and forced a season-high 32 Xavier turnovers. Villanova held a 40-6 advantage in points off of turnovers.
Xavier was only outscored in the second half by four points (37-33), but couldn't overcome a 37-point halftime deficit (49-12).
• Daniela López led the Musketeers in scoring with a season-high 12 points on 5-for-7 shooting. The freshman guard also pulled down a team-high five rebounds.
• Kaysia Woods added eight points on 3-for-6 shooting with two 3-pointers. She added two rebounds, one assist and one steal.
• Nila Blackford and Tae'lor Purvis each added seven points. Blackford added four rebounds and a team-high three assists. Purvis chipped in three rebounds, two assists and one steal.
• Xavier was a perfect 11-for-11 from the foul line with five different Musketeers knocking down a free throw. The last time the Musketeers were perfect from the charity stripe (minimum 10 made free throws) was on Dec. 22, 2018 vs New Orleans (10-for-10). The Musketeers also hit 38.9 percent (14-for-46) of their shot attempts and went 6-for-14 from behind the arc.
• The Wildcats won the battle on the glass, 32-28, and scored six more second-chance points (15-9). Villanova also held a 26-5 advantage in fastbreak points and scored 16 more points in the paint (30-14).
• Xavier returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 6 at No. 18 Marquette. Tip-off is slated for 3 p.m. ET from the Al McGuire Center.
