Courtney Prenger led the Musketeers with 12 points on Tuesday
INDIANAPOLIS - Xavier women's basketball dropped a 60-43 BIG EAST road game at Butler on Tuesday night at Hinkle Fieldhouse. The Musketeers move to 7-20 (0-18 BIG EAST), while the Bulldogs improve to 10-17 (5-13 BIG EAST).
Butler opened the game on an 11-0 run and led by 18 points (37-19) with 7:55 left in the third quarter. Xavier used a 17-4 run to close within five points (41-36) with six seconds left in the third quarter, but the Bulldogs outscored Xavier, 19-7, to end the game - pulling away for the 17-point victory.
• Courtney Prenger led the Musketeers with 12 points on 5-for-10 shooting. She added five rebounds, two assists and one steal. The senior forward now has 14 career double-figure scoring games.
• Shelby Calhoun and Nila Blackford each added eight points, combining to go 7-for-8 from the floor. Blackford also pulled down a team-high seven rebounds. Xavier also won the battle on the glass, 30-29.
• Xavier finished the game with a .333 field-goal percentage (17-for-51) and went 5-for-15 from behind the arc. The Musketeers were also 4-for-6 from the foul line.
• Butler forced 17 Xavier turnovers, converting the miscues into 16 points. The Bulldogs also held a 32-20 advantage in points in the paint. Xavier scored six more bench points (21-15) and held a 6-4 advantage in second-chance points.
• The Bulldogs were 20-for-44 from the floor and 4-for-18 from behind the arc. Butler was also 16-for-18 from the charity stripe.
• The Musketeers return to action on Saturday, Feb. 25 vs Marquette. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m. ET from Cintas Center.
