Women's Basketball Drops Home Finale vs Marquette

The Golden Eagles topped Xavier, 58-46, at Cintas Center on Saturday
CINCINNATI - Xavier women's basketball dropped its home finale, 58-46, on Saturday afternoon vs Marquette. The Musketeers moved to 7-21 (0-19 BIG EAST), while the Golden Eagles improved to 19-9 (12-7 BIG EAST).
Marquette led from start to finish and led by as many as 15 points (33-18) with 8:42 left in the third quarter. Xavier battled back to get within single digits nine times and as late as the 2:27 mark in the fourth quarter (54-46). The Golden Eagles held Xavier scoreless for the remainder of the game, using a 4-0 to close the contest.

• Mackayla Scarlett and Kaysia Woods led the Musketeers in scoring with eight points each. Three other players scored six points: Aanaya Harris, Fernanda Ovalle and Courtney Prenger.
• Mackayla Scarlett also dished out a team-high six assists, while Fernanda Ovalle pulled down a team-high six rebounds. Courtney Prenger also posted a career-high six steals.
• Xavier forced 22 turnovers, the most turnovers in a BIG EAST game this season for the Golden Eagles. The Musketeers had 13 steals, the second most steals in a game this season for Xavier. The Musketeers have posted 10 or more steals in a game nine times this season.
• Marquette won the battle on the glass, 36-32, and scored two more points off of turnovers (18-16). Xavier scored two more second-chance points (10-8) and scored 20 more bench points (24-4).
• Xavier finished the game with a .361 field-goal percentage (22-for-61). The 22 field goals are the second most made baskets in BIG EAST play this season for the Musketeers. Xavier was held without a three pointer (0-for-7) for the first time this season and went 2-for-4 from the foul line.

• The Musketeers finish regular-season action at No. 4 UConn on Monday, Feb. 27 at 7 p.m. The game will be aired nationally on CBS Sports Network.Â
