The Golden Eagles topped the Musketeers, 65-51, on Saturday night at Madison Square Garden
NEW YORK CITY - Xavier men's basketball fell in the BIG EAST Tournament Championship on Saturday night, 65-51, vs No. 1 seed Marquette. 
The Musketeers moved to 25-9 on the year, while No. 6 Marquette improved to 28-6. The Golden Eagles limited Xavier to season-low 51 points and .344 field-goal percentage.Â
Marquette led from start to finish and built a 27-point lead (54-27) with 13:18 left in regulation. Xavier closed within 13 points (63-50) with 3:04 left in the game, but the early deficit was to large to overcome.Â

- Adam Kunkel led the Musketeers in scoring with 14 points. He made four 3-pointers and pulled down four rebounds.
- Desmond Claude added 11 points on 5-for-8 shooting. The freshman guard chipped in four rebounds and three assists.
- Jerome Hunter rounded out the double-figure scorers with 10 points on 5-for-9 shooting. The forward added eight rebounds and two assists.Â
- Jack Nunge finished with six points, seven rebounds and two blocks. Cesare Edwards added six rebounds, while Souley Boum had four rebounds and two assists.
- Xavier won the battle on the glass, 46-39, and scored six more points in the paint (32-26). The Musketeers also held a 7-4 advantage in fastbreak points.Â
- Both teams scored nine second-chance points. Marquette scored 10 more points off of turnovers (17-7) than Xavier.
- Xavier went 21-for-61 from the floor and 5-for-20 from behind the arc. The Musketeers were also 4-for-11 from the foul line.
