Baseball Wins Game Two, Secures Series Victory Against NIU

Tyler DeMartino hit a two-run shot in the first inning, marking his third home run in his last three games played. Xavier took the 2-0 lead into the third where the Huskies brought in three runs, taking a 3-2 advantage.
The NIU lead held into the sixth inning when singles from DeMartino and Carter Hendrickson put two on for Garrett Schultz, who hit a three run home run to get the scoring started in the inning for the Musketeers. Matthew DePrey drove in a pair of runs on an RBI double and Andrew Walker drove in a run with a single, with Xavier scoring six runs on seven hits to retake the lead for good at 8-3.
The Huskies got a run in the seventh, but the Musketeers got it back in th bottom of the frame, with Carter Hendrickson scoring on a wild pitch after stealing second and third, setting the final score at 9-4.
The series wraps up at Hayden Field on Sunday, with game three set to start at 1:00 p.m. on FloSports.

  ON THE MOUND |
- Brant Alazaus made the start, going 6.2 innings, allowing four runs on six hits, striking out six and walking just one. Alazaus picked up the win, moving to 3-3 on the season.
- Jonathan Kelly entered for the final out of the seventh, pitching 2.1 scoreless innings, not allowing a hit. Kelly finished with one strikeout to one walk.

- Garrett Schultz (2-4) drove in three RBI and scored a run after hitting his third home run of the season in the sixth inning.
- Tyler DeMartino (2-5) drove in two RBI on his fifth home run of the season. He's homered in the last three games and five of the last seven games he's appeared in.
- Matthew DePrey went 2-5 and drove in a pair of runs on a double. DePrey also scored a run.
- Grant Stephenson (2-3) and Matt McCormick (2-4) each finished with a run scored.
- Andrew Walker went 1-3 with a walk, driving in an RBI and scoring a run.
- Jared Cushing and Carter Hendrickson each recorded a hit on a 13-hit day for the Musketeers.
