Xavier Sweeps Series vs Huskies, Extends Win Streak to Six Games

The Musketeers defeated Northern Illinois, 3-2, on Sunday afternoon
CINCINNATI - Xavier swept the weekend series vs Northern Illinois on Sunday afternoon, defeating the Huskies, 3-2, at Hayden Field. The Musketeers extended their win streak to six games.
Northern Illinois (5-21) took an early 1-0 lead in the second inning on solo home run by Colin Summerhill. The Musketeers (16-12) took their first lead of the game in the following inning on a two-run homer by Tyler DeMartino.
Matthew DePrey drove in the game-winning run in the eighth inning with a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Jared Cushing from third base. The Musketeers retired three straight batters in the final frame (two strikeouts from Clay Schwaner and a ground out to shortstop) to seal the victory.
Xavier had one more hit (5-4) than Northern Illinois and committed one more error (1-0). The Musketeers also left six more runners on base (12-6).
Xavier returns to action on Tuesday, April 4 at Miami (Ohio). First pitch is set for 7 p.m. from McKie Field at Hayden Park.

- LHP Justin Loer (4-2) earned the win on the mound, pitching three scoreless innings of relief. He only allowed one hit and recorded two strikeouts.
- RHP Luke Bell started the game for Xavier, going five innings with three strikeouts and three walks. He allowed two runs.
- Clay Schwaner posted his BIG EAST leading fourth save of the season. He threw two strikeouts and didn't allow any base runners in the final inning.

- Tyler DeMartino went 1-for-4 with two RBI and a run. He finished the series with a .417 batting average (5-for-12) with five RBI and four runs.
- Andrew Walker went 1-for-5 at the plate with one run. He added two stolen bases and finished the series with a total of four stolen bases (4-for-4). The outfielder now has a team-leading six game hitting streak.
- Carter Hendrickson, Garrett Schultz and Grant Stephenson all went 1-for-3 at the plate. Hendrickson has now reached base safely in 24 straight games.
- Matthew DePrey finished the series with a .400 batting average (4-for-10) with three RBI, two extra-base hits and two runs.
