Kelly joins the Musketeers after 14 seasons at Iona
CINCINNATI - Xavier head women's basketball coach Billi Chambers has announced the hiring of Ashlee Kelly as associate head coach. She joins the Musketeers after 14 seasons at Iona.
"I'm excited that Ashlee decided to join me at Xavier," said Chambers. "She played an integral part in the success of Iona women's basketball since 2009. Her knowledge of the game, ability to connect with players and desire to help rebuild the program at Xavier is unmatched.
"Ashlee has been by my side since my first day at Iona and I can't wait for her to help us compete for BIG EAST Championships and participate in postseason play."
In 14 seasons at Iona, Kelly helped the Gaels to 221 wins with four 20-win seasons. She also helped Iona advance to the NCAA Tournament twice, win two Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Regular-Season Titles and capture two MAAC Tournament Titles.
"I'm looking forward to the next chapter of my coaching career after 14 successful seasons at Iona," said Kelly. "I'd like to thank Coach Chambers for asking me to join her in Cincinnati. I'm ready for the challenge of helping restore Xavier women's basketball on a national level."
All told, she helped coach 35 All-MAAC honorees – including three MAAC Players of the Year, two MAAC Defensive Players of the Year, and five MAAC Rookies of the Years.
Kelly helped the Gaels to 26 overall wins and 18 conference wins in 2013-14 and 2022-23. Both marks are program bests in Iona program history.
Prior to Iona, Kelly was the head coach at Mercy College (2006-09). She was also the assistant director of athletics for student services/SWA at Mercy College from 2006-08. Kelly also has coaching experience with the Connecticut Breeze U13 and U15 Teams (2003-04).
The Pittsburgh, Pa., native played collegiately at Quinnipiac from 2000-04, finishing her career ranked fourth in school history in scoring (1,580) and third in rebounding (1,107). The 2002-03 Northeast Conference Player of the Year was inducted into Quinnipiac's Athletics Hall of Fame in 2014.
