Musketeers finish the season at 12-9, marking a second-straight 10-plus win season

CAYCE, S.C. - Xavier men's tennis' season came to a close in the BIG EAST Quarterfinals on Friday, falling 4-1 to the No. 3 seed Georgetown Hoyas at the Cayce Tennis and Fitness Center.

The Musketeers finish the season at 12-9, making it back-to-back 12 win seasons. It marks the first time the program has posted 10-plus wins in back-to-back seasons since the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons. the 2022-23 Musketeers also earned a spot in the ITA National Rankings for the first time in nearly a decade, after moving in the ITA team rankings on Feb. 20, coming in at No. 61. Prior to that, the last time Xavier was ranked was February 2013, when Xavier came in at No. 73.

THE MATCH

In doubles play, Georgetown took a 6-1 win on the No. 1 court against Ryan Cahill and Shashank Reddy, then clinched the point with a 6-2 win on the No. 3 court against Kyle Totorica and Deacon Thomas. Cambell Nakayama and Charlie Temming lead 5-2 on No. 2 when the point was decided.

The Hoyas picked up the first two singles decision to take a 3-0 lead, winning 6-1, 6-0 on No. 5 against Kyle Totorica, and 6-2, 6-0 on No. 4 against Marco Pennelli.

Charlie Temming came back from being down 4-5 in the first set on No. 6 to win 7-5, 6-0, to cut the Hoya lead back to 3-1. Temming wraps up the season undefeated in singles play.

Georgetown clinched the match on No. 1, taking 6-7, 6-4, 6-2 win over Ryan Cahill to set the final score at 4-1.

When the match was decided, the final two courts were in a third set, with Deacon Thomas leading on No. 2, 6-3, 6-7, 3-2, and Cambell Nakayama trailing 4-6, 6-2, 5-3 on No. 3
