CINCINNATI – Xavier head women's basketball coach Billi Chambers announced the hiring of Avery Wright as assistant athletic director for women's basketball on Friday. Wright joins the Musketeers after one season at Oklahoma State.
"The backbone of every basketball program is the support staff," said Chambers. "I'm excited to make our first hire in that area with Avery Wright. She is an extremely detail-oriented person who will anchor our support staff and manage the day-to-day operations of our program."
Wright served as a graduate assistant with the Cowgirls in 2022-23. She worked directly with the head coach and director of operations to manage the day-to-day operations of the program. Wright also oversaw the student managers, assisted with on-campus visits and was the liaison with the support areas for the program.
"Coach Chambers was enthusiastic when sharing her vision for the program during the interview process," said Wright. "She has a precise game plan in place and I'm thrilled to be playing a small part in that plan. I can't wait to hit the ground running at Xavier."
Prior to Oklahoma State, Wright was a championships assistant for the Big 12 Conference from 2021-22. She assisted in hosting conference championships, creating championship manuals and assisted with all business office operations.
Wright served as a student assistant and intern to the athletic director at Texas Tech from 2019-21. She assisted in managing the athletic director's schedule and assisted in managing the football and basketball suites. Wright also assisted in the fulfillment of group ticket orders and helped oversee the day-to-day operations of the deputy athletic director's office.
The Lubbock, Texas, native holds a bachelor's degree in human resource development and political science from Texas Tech ('20). She also holds a master's of science degree from Texas Tech ('21).
