She joins the Musketeers after one season at Cincinnati
CINCINNATI - Xavier head women's basketball coach Billi Chambers announced the hiring of Myia Johnson as assistant coach/recruiting coordinator on Thursday. Johnson joins the Musketeers after one season at Cincinnati.
"I'm excited to finalize our coaching staff with the addition of Coach Johnson," said Chambers. "Myia is a relentless recruiter who has hauled in nationally ranked recruiting classes at her previous stops. She will work tirelessly to recruit and develop top talent at Xavier."
Prior to Cincinnati, Johnson spent three seasons as an assistant coach/recruiting coordinator at Penn State (2019-22). She helped coach nine all-conference honorees, highlighted by Maddie Burke who was named the 2021 Big Ten Sixth Player of the Year. Johnson was also responsible for a top-20 nationally ranked recruiting class in 2020.
"I'm looking forward to helping Coach Chambers rebuild the tradition-rich program at Xavier," said Johnson. "I'm thrilled to be coaching in my hometown and competing in a basketball-first conference like the BIG EAST."
Prior to Penn State, Johnson spent three seasons at Wisconsin (2016-19). She helped coach three players to all-conference honors, highlighted by two-time Big Ten All-Second Team honoree, Imani Lewis. In 2018, Johnson secured a nationally ranked recruiting class (ranked No. 14 by Blue Star Basketball).
Johnson served as the video coordinator for Ohio State from 2013-14. The Buckeyes advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 in 2016. Prior to Ohio State, she was the administrative assistant at South Florida (2012-13). The Bulls advanced to the second round of the 2013 NCAA Tournament.
Johnson played collegiately at Rutgers from 2006-10 under Basketball Hall of Fame coach C. Vivian Stringer. The Scarlet Knights advanced to the NCAA Tournament three times and were the 2007 NCAA Runner-Up.
The Cincinnati, Ohio, native holds a bachelor's degree in sport management from Rutgers ('10).
