Brueneman was the program's first head coach (1971-76)
CINCINNATI - Former Xavier women's basketball coach Tony Brueneman ('67) passed away on Sunday, June 18.
His funeral will be held at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Oakley at 11 a.m on Friday, June 23.
Brueneman was the first women's basketball coach in program history, compiling a 33-18 overall record over five seasons (1971-76). During the 1975-76 season, the team posted a 13-2 record.
During his time at Xavier, Brueneman served in a variety of roles: faculty, campus activities advisor, director of intramural programs and women's basketball coach.
The Cincinnati, Ohio, native graduated from Purcell Marian HS in 1958 and Xavier University in 1967.
