The Musketeers were the third highest ranked team in the BIG EAST
CLEVELAND - Xavier Athletics recently finished 84th in the LEARFIELD Directors' Cup NCAA Division I Final Standings.
Xavier also finished third in the standings among BIG EAST teams. Georgetown finished 67th followed by UConn (79th) and Xavier (84th).
The Musketeers won three BIG EAST Championships during the 2022-23 season: women's tennis, women's golf and baseball. All three of those teams advanced to the NCAA Tournament in addition to men's basketball and women's soccer. Track and field also had two individuals advance to the NCAA Outdoor Regionals.
Xavier also finished second in the Division I-AAA Athletics Directors Association (DI-AAA ADA) All-Sports Trophy behind Pepperdine. Creighton finished third in the standings.
Overall, 19 sports are counted in the final DI standings, four of which must be women's volleyball and basketball and men's basketball and baseball. The next highest (15 max.) sports scored for each institution, regardless of gender, are used in the standings.
The LEARFIELD Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA Championships.
Complete standings and the scoring structure can be found on NACDA's website at www.directorscup.org
Now in its 22nd year, the Division I-AAA Athletics Directors Association's mission is to enhance initiatives common to its Division I-AAA membership (the 98 Division I institutions that do not sponsor football), in particular, aspects related to their flagship basketball programs.
