Volleyball Downs Rival Cincinnati in Four-Set Match

The Musketeers defeated the Bearcats for the second consecutive season
CINCINNATI - Xavier volleyball moved to 2-0 on the year following a four-set win (28-26, 16-25, 25-23, 25-23) vs crosstown rival Cincinnati on Saturday night a Fifth Third Arena.
Xavier extends the win streak to two and sends the record up 2-0 (0-0 BIG EAST) while Cincinnati continues on at 1-1 (0-0 Big XII).
The Musketeers earned back-to-back victories over rival Cincinnati in the 2022 and 2023 seasons. The last time the Musketeers accomplished this feat was in the 2013 and 2014 seasons.
With Cincinnati's move to the Big XII, Xavier has now picked up the first Power 5 victory for the program since the spring of 2021 season, where they defeated Kansas in four sets.
• Emma Grace led the squad in kills with a total of 18 and hit for .421 in the match averaging 4.5 kills per set. The junior outside hitter also recorded 26 receptions, 12 digs, and four service aces, picking up her second double-double of the season.
• Redshirt sophomore Anna Taylor tallied 13 kills and sophomore outside hitter Caroline Speelman followed close behind with nine.
• Carrigan O'Reilly earned her second double-double of the season against the Bearcats with her 42 assists and 12 digs. The graduate setter recorded eight kills and raised her career total for assists to 3,501.
• Junior setter Logan Flaugh and redshirt junior Sarah Stevens were the only Musketeers to record blocks against the Bearcats and each posted a block solo.
• Senior libero Stevie Wolf recorded the match-high in digs with 23 and was followed by O'Reilly and Grace with their 12 apiece.
• Speelman, Wolf, Grace, and junior defensive specialist Lucia Corsaro each saw double digit receptions from the Bearcats in the four set match.
• Head Coach Christy Pfeffenberger went five for six on her challenge calls and the results of those challenges turned the tables for the Musketeers and ultimately gave the squad the push to victory.
• The Musketeers totaled 62 kills, 58 assists, 69 digs, two block solos, and six service aces in the 3-1 victory.
