No. 24 Women's Soccer Heads to Seton Hall on Sunday

Musketeers and Pirates set to play at 1:00 p.m. on FloSports
CINCINNATI - No. 24 Xavier women's soccer (9-2-1; 2-0-1 BIG EAST) heads back out on the road this weekend, traveling to South Orange, N.J., to face Seton Hall on Sunday afternoon, set for a 1:00 p.m. start on FloSports.
The Musketeers returned to the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 this week, coming in at No. 24 after opening up BIG EAST play with an unbeaten week, playing Butler to a 1-1 draw before taking a 3-0 win at DePaul. Xavier is also ranked in the top 25 by College Soccer News (No. 20) and comes in at 29 in the most recent RPI.
Xavier is currently tied with Georgetown and UConn with seven points in BIG EAST play, to sit on top of the league standings.

- The Pirates, who were picked to finish 11th in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches Poll, are 5-5-1 overall and 1-2-0 in BIG EAST play SHU is tied for seventh after falling to Providence and Villanova in the opening weekend of conference play and taking a 1-0 win over St. John's on Thursday.
- SHU has also collected wins over Central Connecticut State, Binghamton, Rider and Le Moyne, and played Marist to a draw.
- The Pirates went 5-10-3 last season with a 1-8-1 record in BIG EAST play.

- Samantha Wiehe added a team high matching fifth goal, and third game-winner, on Sunday at DePaul. Combined with three assists, she lead Xavier with 13 points.
- Shelby Sallee also has a team-high matching five goals on the season, scoring in four of the last six matches.
- Kennedy Clark has two goals and team-high matching four assists on the season for eight points. Jane Olcott also has a team-high matching four assists.
- Madison Ayson added a second goal against Villanova, now sitting at five points on two goals and an assist.
- Regan Dancer has six points on two goals and two assists. Sonia Vargas also has a pair of goals.
- Emma Flick has a goal and a pair assists for four points while Ella Rogers has three points on a goal and an assist.

- Xavier picked up a 1-0 win over Villanova on Thursday evening at Corcoran Field to remain unbeaten in BIG EAST play.
- The Musketeers held a 7-2 advantage on shots in the first 45 minutes, but the game went into halftime scoreless. Xavier broke the tie in the 59th minute, with Madison Ayson scoring from in front of the goal off a pass from Kennedy Clark to give Xavier the 1-0 lead.
- The Musketeer defense only allowed the Wildcats three shots in the second half, with just one look on-goal. Goalkeeper Maria Galley made the fingertip save on the look on-frame in the final minutes to keep Villanova off the board, setting the final score at 1-0 in favor of the Musketeers.
- Madison Ayson's second-half goal was her second of the season, and first game-winner. She has five points on two goals and an assist.
- Kennedy Clark picked up an assist on Ayson's goal, her team-high matching fourth of the season. Coupled with a pair of goals, she has eight points.
- Xavier finished with a 16-5 advantage on shots.
- Maria Galley finished with one save and no goals against for her sixth clean sheet of the season.
- Maddie Reed and Natalie Bain played the full 90 minutes for the Xavier defense to help keep the shutout intact.
- Xavier's win extends their unbeaten streak in BIG EAST regular season matches to 21 games, a streak that stretches back over two years (9/26/2021).

- Sophomore defender Natalie Bain was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week after helping the Musketeers to an unbeaten weekend to open conference play, the league office announced on Monday.
- Bain, who is originally from Alexandria, Ky., played the full 90 minutes on the Xavier backline in both matches last weekend as went Xavier 1-0-1 to open BIG EAST play.
- Against Butler on Thursday, she helped limit Butler to just four shots on-goal to keep the 1-1 draw intact, extending Xavier's unbeaten streak in BIG EAST regular season matches that stretches back to Sept. 2021.
- At DePaul on Sunday, Bain and the Musketeer defense didn't allow a single shot on-goal, earning the fifth shutout of the season. Bain also added a goal, her first of the season, in Xavier's 3-0 win over the Blue Demons, scoring in the 66th minute off a free kick.

- Xavier returns home to host No. 11 Georgetown on Thursday, Oct. 5 at Corcoran Field. The Musketeers and Hoyas will face off at 7:00 p.m. on FS1.
- The Hoyas are 6-1-4 overall, and have been ranked as high as No. 10 during this season, appearing in the USC poll each week this season.
- GU opened BIG EAST with wins over St. John's and Creighton before playing UConn to a tie on Thursday to sit at 2-0-1 in conference play, sitting on top of the conference standings with seven points, matching Xavier and UConn.
- The Hoyas went 15-2-5 last season with an 8-0-2 record in BIG EAST play to win the league's regular season title. The Hoyas, who were ranked No. 18 in the postseason, took 1-0 wins over Creighton and Xavier to win the league's tournament title and automatic bid to the NCAA Championship. GU topped Hofstra 1-0 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament before falling to Pitt, 2-1.
- The Musketeers are 1-9-2 all-time against Georgetown.
- Xavier played the Hoyas to a 0-0 draw in Washington, D.C., in last season's regular season match-up, and fell, 1-0, in the BIG EAST Tournament Championship match.

- Xavier, currently ranked No. 24 in the USC poll, is coming off a 14-4-5 season in 2022.
- The Musketeers went 6-0-4 in BIG EAST play to finish second in the league standings, marking the first unbeaten conference slate in program history.
- Xavier earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Championship for a second-straight season, the program's fifth NCAA bid overall.
- In the NCAA Tournament, Xavier advanced for the second time in program history with a 4-1 double overtime win at Tennessee in the first round.

- The Musketeers return 19 letterwinners in all from last season, and added a pair of transfers in addition to a 10-person freshman class for the 2023 season.
- Xavier returns a trio of all-conference honorees from last season, with goalkeeper Maria Galley and defender Natalie Bain earning All-BIG EAST Second Team and All-Freshman Team honors, and forward Regan Dancer picking up a nod to the All-Freshman squad.
