Musketeers and Knights set to get underway at 1:00 p.m.
CINCINNATI - No. 21 Xavier women's soccer (5-1-0) remains at home this weekend, hosting Bellarmine on Sunday, Sept. 10. The Musketeers and the Knights get underway at 1:00 p.m. on FloSports.
The Musketeers picked up a second-straight Top 25 win on Thursday evening with a 2-1 victory over No. 22 Pitt. Xavier moved up in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25Â this week, coming in at No. 21 after taking a 1-0 win at No. 23 Saint Louis last week. Xavier is ranked in the top 25 in the Top Drawer Soccer and College Soccer News polls as well.

- The Knights are 3-1-2 on the season, picking up wins over UIndy, Evansville and Chicago State and also played NKU and Morehead to a draw. Bellarmine's lone setback came against IUPUI.
- Bellarmine went 1-7-9 overall and 1-4-5 in ASun play last season.
- Xavier is 1-0 against the Knights, taking a 1-0 win in the Spring of 2021.

- After setting a new career-best for saves in Xavier's top-25 road win, goalkeeper Maria Galley was named the BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week for the second time this season.
- Galley, a sophomore from South Windsor, Conn., collected eight saves in-goal in Xavier's 1-0 win at No. 23 Saint Louis, on the way to her fourth win and third shutout of the season. Her previous career-high was six, set twice in 2022, at Northwestern and in Xavier's NCAA Tournament win at Tennessee.
- Midfielder Samantha Wiehe also earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.
- Wiehe, a junior from Northfield, Ohio, scored the game-winning goal on a PK in Xavier's 1-0 road win at No. 23 Saint Louis. The goal was her third of the season, and second game-winner. She added to her team-high point total, now with seven on a team-high three goals and an assist.

- No. 21 Xavier women's soccer picked up a second-straight Top 25 win, taking down No. 22 Pitt, 2-1, at Corcoran Field on Thursday evening, moving the Musketeers to 5-1 on the season.
- The match was scoreless into the final 15 minutes of the first half, when Shelby Sallee found the ball off a rebound from the Pitt goalkeeper, sending her second shot to the back of the net to give Xavier the 1-0 lead at the half.
- Sallee struck again midway through the second half, scoring off an Elise Le free kick that bounced off a defender to put Xavier ahead 2-0.
- The Panthers struck in the final 10 minutes, with Mackenzie Evers finishing a ball served over the Xavier defense, to cut the lead to 2-1, but Pitt was unable to score the equalizer in the final minutes of the match to set the final score at 2-1.
- Shelby Sallee finished with four points on two goals, including the game-winner, after scoring her first of the season in the first half.
- Elise Le picked up an assist on Sallee's game-winner in the second half.
- Xavier finished with a 16-13 advantage on shots, but each team had nine looks on frame. Sallee led Xavier with five shots, all on-goal.
- Maria Galley matched her career high from the Saint Louis match with eight saves, with one goal against.
- Maddie Reed and Natalie Bain played the full 90 minutes on the Xavier backline.
- The win over Pitt was Xavier's second straight victory over a top-25 opponent after topping No. 23Â Saint Louis last week.

- Xavier heads to Texas for a pair of matches next week, starting with Lamar on Thursday, September 14, set for an 8:00 PM ET start.
- Lamar is 3-2-1 on the season, with wins over Sam Houston, Tarleton State and Southern.
- The Cardinals went 15-2-2 overall in 2022, with a 10-1-1 record in Southland Conference play, winning the league's regular season title. Lamar took wins over Houston Christian and Texas A&M – Commerce to win the Southland's Tournament title and automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.
- The Cardinals fell to No. 8 LSU in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
- This is the first match-up between the two programs.

- Xavier, which is currently ranked No. 21 in the USC Preseason Poll, is coming off a 14-4-5 season in 2022.
- The Musketeers went 6-0-4 in BIG EAST play to finish second in the league standings, marking the first unbeaten conference slate in program history.
- Xavier earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Championship for a second-straight season, the program's fifth NCAA bid overall.
- In the NCAA Tournament, Xavier advanced for the second time in program history with a 4-1 double overtime win at Tennessee in the first round.

- The Musketeers return 19 letterwinners in all from last season, and added a pair of transfers in addition to a 10-person freshman class for the 2023 season.
- Xavier returns a trio of all-conference honorees from last season, with goalkeeper Maria Galley and defender Natalie Bain earning All-BIG EAST Second Team and All-Freshman Team honors, and forward Regan Dancer picking up a nod to the All-Freshman squad.
- Bain and junior midfielder Ella Rogers were selected to the 2023 Preseason All-BIG EAST Team.Â
