
Musketeers Come Up Short in Road Loss at DePaul

DePaul topped Xavier, 79-47, on Tuesday night at Wintrust Arena
CHICAGO - Xavier women's basketball dropped a 79-47 BIG EAST contest at DePaul on Tuesday night at Wintrust Arena.
Xavier opened the game on a 7-3 run capped by a Nila Blackford layup with 8:30 on the clock. DePaul responded by scoring 20 unanswered points, taking a 16-point lead with 3:27 left in the first quarter.
The Blue Demons never relinquished their double-figure lead and took a 44-25 advantage into the locker room. DePaul outscored Xavier, 35-22, in the second half to pull away for the 32-point victory.
DePaul forced 21 turnovers, converting the miscues into 26 points. The Blue Demons also held a 22-8 advantage in second-chance points.
• Daniela López and Mackayla Scarlett paced Xavier with nine points each. The two guards combined to added four rebounds, two steals and four 3-pointers.
• Nila Blackford posted six points and a team-high seven rebounds. The forward added two assists.
• Tae'lor Purvis chipped in five points on 2-for-3 shooting. The guard added five rebounds and four assists.
• Aizhanique Mayo posted four points, three rebounds and one steal. Júlia Garcia Roig added four points and three assists.
• Xavier finished the game with a .345 field-goal percentage (19-for-55) and went 7-for-19 from behind the arc. The Musketeers were also 2-for-4 from the foul line.
• DePaul won the battle on the glass, 48-32, and scored 10 more fastbreak points (13-3). The Blue Demons also scored 20 more bench points (39-19) than Xavier.
