Mackayla Scarlett scored a game-high 21 points vs the Hoyas
WASHINGTON - Mackayla Scarlett scored a game-high 21 points in Xavier's 77-49 setback at Georgetown on Saturday afternoon.
The Musketeers moved to 1-15 (0-7 BIG EAST) on the year, while the Hoyas improved to 14-4 (4-3 BIG EAST).
Xavier took an early 8-6 lead in the first quarter before the Hoyas outscored Xavier, 28-2, over the next 10 minutes to take a 24-point advantage (34-10). Georgetown limited the Musketeers to only 14 points in the first half, taking a 27-point lead (41-14) into the locker room.
Georgetown led by as many as 41 points (69-28) with 9:33 left in regulation. Xavier outscored the Hoyas, 21-11, in the fourth quarter to make the final score, 77-49. The Musketeers were only outscored by one point (36-35) in the second half.
• Mackayla Scarlett scored a game-high 21 points on 7-for-19 shooting. The guard was 3-for-9 from behind the arc and 4-for-4 from the charity stripe. She added a team-high three assists to go along with two rebounds and one steal. Scarlett now has four career 20-point performances.
• Aanaya Harris finished with nine points on 3-for-5 shooting. She added five rebounds.
• Aizhanique Mayo chipped in seven points, two steals, two assists and one rebound. Daniela López finished with five points, one rebound and one assist.
• The Musketeers posted a .360 field-goal percentage (18-for-50) and went 6-for-19 from behind the arc. Xavier was also 7-for-12 from the foul line.
• Georgetown won the battle on the glass, 34-23, and scored 14 more points off of turnovers (25-11). The Hoyas also held a 22-4 advantage in fastbreak points and scored 26 more points in the paint (42-16).
• Xavier opens a two-game homestand on Wednesday, Jan. 24 vs Butler. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. from Cintas Center.
