
Four Musketeers Reach Double Figures in Loss vs Butler

Mackayla Scarlett scored a team-high 18 points on Wednesday night
CINCINNATI - Mackayla Scarlett led four Musketeers in double figures on Wednesday night, scoring 18 points in the team's 90-57 loss to Butler at Cintas Center.
The Musketeers moved to 1-16 (0-8 BIG EAST) on the year, while the Bulldogs improved to 9-10 (1-7 BIG EAST).
The Bulldogs hit 65.5 percent (17-for-26) of their shot attempts in the first half with 10 three pointers, taking a 49-23 lead at the break. Butler finished the game with a season-high .623 field-goal percentage (33-for-53) to go along with 13 three pointers - pulling away for the 33-point victory.
Xavier was only outscored by seven points (41-34) in the second half, but couldn't overcome the 26-point halftime deficit.
• Mackayla Scarlett scored a team-high 18 points on 6-for-10 shooting. She added four rebounds, two assists and three steals. The guard now has 32 career double-figure scoring games.
• Xavier recorded a season-high 12 steals and forced 20 Butler turnovers. The Musketeers held a 19-12 advantage in points off of turnovers. Xavier now has four games on the year with 10 or more steals.
• Tae'lor Purvis added 12 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals. The guard was also 6-for-7 from the free-throw line. She now has three career double-figure scoring games.
• Aizhanique Mayo added 11 points and a team-high three 3-pointers. The guard added two rebounds, one assist and one steal. The freshman has scored in double figures four times this season.
• Nila Blackford rounded out the double-figure scorers with 10 points. The forward chipped in four rebounds, three steals and one assist.
• The Musketeers finished the game with a .350 field-goal percentage (21-for-60) and went 5-for-23 from behind the arc. Xavier also went 10-for-13 from the foul line.
• Butler won the battle on the glass, 40-21, and scored two more second-chance points (12-10). Butler also held a 25-6 advantage in bench points and scored 14 more points in the pain (38-24).
• Xavier continues its homestand on Saturday, Jan. 27 vs Providence. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m. from Cintas Center.
