
Musketeers Suffer Setback vs Red Storm on Tuesday Night

Nila Blackford scored six points and pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds
CINCINNATI - Xavier women's basketball dropped a 60-42 contest vs St. John's on Tuesday night at Cintas Center.
The Musketeers moved to 1-12 (0-4 BIG EAST), while the Red Storm improved to 10-7 (4-1 BIG EAST).
The Red Storm never trailed in the contest and led for 39 minutes and 32 seconds in the game. The game was tied at 10-10 in the opening quarter with 2:57 on the clock before St. John's outscored Xavier, 5-4, to take a one-point advantage (15-14) into the second frame.
St. John's outscored Xavier, 18-7, in the second quarter to take a double-figure lead (33-21) into the locker room. The Red Storm never relinquished the double-figure advantage and led by as many as 21 points in the closing minutes of regulation.
• Aizhanique Mayo scored a team-high 14 points on 5-for-16 shooting. The freshman guard added three rebounds, two assists and one steal. Mayo matched her season high in scoring (also had 14 points vs SIUE on Dec. 15).
• Nila Blackford, Daniela López and Aizhanique Mayo all played 40 minutes in the contest. Tae'lor Purvis logged 37 minutes of action off the bench.
• Tae'lor Purvis scored a career-high 13 points on 5-for-10 shooting, her first career game in double figures. The senior guard added five rebounds, two assists and a game-high three steals.
• Daniela López chipped in seven points on 3-for-8 shooting. The freshman guard added four rebounds.
• Nila Blackford finished with six points and a game-high 15 rebounds. The senior forward now has five double-figure rebounding games this season and 34 double-figure rebounding games in her career.
• St. Jonh's won the battle on the glass, 31-30, and had five more second-chance points (7-2). The Musketeers held a 15-11 advantage in points off of turnovers and scored four more bench points (13-9). Both teams scored 20 points in the paint.
• Xavier finished the game with a .327 field-goal percentage (17-for-52) and went 4-for-15 from behind the arc. Xavier was also 4-for-6 from the foul line. The Musketeers committed a season-low 13 turnovers in the setback.
• Xavier returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 13 vs Seton Hall. Tip-off is slated for 4 p.m. ET from Cintas Center with the game being aired nationally on FS1.
