Wiehe scores a pair, Erbach adds a goal; Musketeer defense picks up ninth shutout
QUEENS, N.Y. - Goals from Samantha Wiehe and Samantha Erbach and a third straight shutout for the Musketeer defense helped No. 20 Xavier women's soccer remain unbeaten in BIG EAST play, taking a 3-0 win at St. John's on Thursday. Xavier moves to 13-1-2 overall and 6-0-1 in BIG EAST play with the win, remaining in first place in the BIG EAST standings.
Samantha Wiehe got the Musketeers on the board first, scoring off the pass from Emma Flick to put Xavier in front in the first 20 minutes. The Musketeers added another goal to its lead when Samantha Erbach scored less than 10 minutes later. The Musketeers took the 2-0 advantage into halftime, out-shooting the Red Storm 12-1 in the first 45 minutes.
Shortly after halftime, Xavier added another tally to the lead, with Samantha Wiehe striking again, on a penalty kick, after Samantha Erbach was fouled in the box. Xavier finished with a 26-2 advantage on shots overall and a 13-1 advantage on shots on-goal for the match, after the Musketeer defense didn't allow the Red Storm a look on-frame in the second half. Xavier picked up its third-straight shutout, now having clocked over 300 minutes since the last goal allowed.
Next, Xavier returns to Corcoran Field to wrap up the home portion of the regular season on Sunday, Oct. 20, hosting Providence for a 1:00 p.m. start on FloSports. The Musketeers will celebrate Senior Day prior to the match.

- Samantha Erbach scored her eighth goal of the season, second most on the team, to go with four assists to give her 20 points for her freshman season.
- Emma Flick added to her team-high assist total on Wiehe's game-winner, giving her eight for the season. Combined with six goals, she has 20 points.
- The Musketeers finished with 26 shots overall, and 13 shots on-goal, led by six for Erbach and five for Peyton Kohls. Both marks are season high for a St. John's opponent.
- Olivia Lawson and Natalie Bain played the full 90 minutes for Xavier's defense, which held the Red Storm to just two shots, and one only shot on-goal, both marks matching the season low for SJU. The Musketeers picked up their third-straight, and ninth overall, shutout.Â
- Maria Galley played the full time in-goal, collecting one save without allowing a goal for her eighth complete shutout of the season.
- Xavier's unbeaten streak in BIG EAST regular season play now stands at 35Â matches, stretching back over three years to September 2021.Â
